Thai pickup driver assaults university student over roundabout dispute

Featured Replies

Absolute madness.  I know you are in danger driving in Thailand, and that people often don't follow the rules, but attacking other road users for doing so is a new one.

  • I have two roundabout near my house, I would say only about 10% of drivers understand the rules of roundabout use, that could be fixed with enforcement, but TIT.

Unlucky. Now he will have to pay the cops and the couple he abused.   These pickup drivers are a constant nuisance throughout the country.

Sounds as though the pickup driver deserves jail for assault.

Many of the ignorant wretches on the roads here will get annoyed if you are complying with the road rules, and they themselves don't understand them.

Quite common for them to get irate when they are told they should not overtake on the crest of a hill, on a blind bend or where there is a solid yellow line, etc.

Poor education, the local culture, a lack of desire to learn the right way, and an abysmal driver competency and licensing scheme is to blame.

Roundabouts have stop signs at the roads joining it, and even signs telling drivers, in writing, the right of way is for people ON the roundabout.

I think roundabouts need traffic lights now.

That would be a waste of money, firstly the majority of Thai drivers have no damn clue of the traffic act regarding the use and rightward of roundabouts.

Additionally, Thais obeying traffic lights is a 50:50 engagement at best.
