Episcopalian Bishop pleads with Trump to show mercy towards vulnerable people

Did you see the disgusting totally partisan speech by Reverend Graham at the inauguration?

I guess you know that I attended school with this clown Franklin for about a year until they made him leave.

I stay as far away from churches as possible, no matter if someone might tell me that there are grounds for my going to one.

When Trump calls himself a Christian, he is only having another one of his humorous jokes.

The USA cannot save the homeless outside its borders; One reason is that it must first solve the homeless problem inside its borders.

Therefore, refugees smeffugees. The USA can only assimilate so many per year.  And, of those, all should be Chinese people, the smart ones, of which there are many. Also, I just prefer Chinese culture to Mexican culture, if there is one to speak of.

There is no national religion, nor any designated church.  If there had to be, then I would choose that Snake Cult in the Deep American South as my preferred National Religion.

I am happier to have Trump than Biden.

Big Time!

And Harris doesn't even bear thinking about.

why won't you just let this go?

It is pure speculation.

You have no idea what their "arrangement" is, and even if you did,  IT WOUDN'T FOKKING MATTER.

it has nothing to do with the discussion at hand.

She was merely preaching the gospel. Perhaps one day, you too shall hear the good word and understand.

The membership in her Church has declined because may USians have turned away from the gospel and embraced  a life of greed, gluttony, avarice, sloth and infidelity. It requires discipline, sincerity and integrity to be a good Christian, qualities which many people lack.

No, she wasn't. Unless you consider "Democratic Talking Points" as gospel.  Her obvious distaste for Trump was rather sad, really. She has a history of bringing her personal politics into her preaching.

I would say many people deserted the church because it went woke.

No true Christian wants women running the church. Men only!

You should not comment on Church administrative affairs and on a Church that you obviously know nothing about.

Although, women are the backbone of most Churches, women are not "running" the church as you so ignorantly state. Participating Christians serve on the Executive Council. The Executive Chairman of the Council and the Primate is The Most Rev. Sean Rowe, and the last time I saw him interviewed, he was a man.  The Chief of Mission is Rev. Lester V. Mackenzie and the majority of Bishops are men.

The late Queen Elizabeth II  was the Supreme Governor of the Church of England, for 70 years. My understanding is that she was praised and supported for her active role. No one was out protesting or objecting to her role. Perhaps you are confused with one of the satanic cults you may be more familiar with.

Get back to me after you have read the scripture from which she drew her sermon. Both old and new testaments  have many passages.  Here are some of the inspirational points that she referred to her in her comments on aliens.

Exodus 12:49 and Leviticus 24:22 – “There shall be one law for the native and for the alien who resides among you.”

Exodus 22:21 –   “You shall not wrong or oppress a resident alien; for you were aliens in the land of Egypt.”

Leviticus 19:33-34 and 24:22 – When the alien resides with you in your land, you shall not oppress the alien.  The alien who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the alien as yourself, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt:  I am the Lord your God.”

Numbers 9:14 and 15:15-16 – “…you shall have one statute for both the resident alien and the native.”

Deuteronomy 1:16 – “Give the members of your community a fair hearing, and judge rightly between one person and another, whether citizen or resident alien.”

Deuteronomy 10:18-19 – “For the Lord your God…loves the strangers, providing them food and clothing.  You shall also love the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.”

Deuteronomy 24:14   – “You shall not withhold the wages of poor and needy laborers, whether other Israelites or aliens who reside in your land…”

Deuteronomy 24:17-18 – “You shall not deprive a resident alien…of justice.”

Deuteronomy 24:19-22 – Leave sheaf, olives, grapes for the alien.

Deuteronomy 27:19 – “Cursed be anyone who deprives the alien…of justice.”

Psalm 146:9 – “The Lord watches over the strangers…”

Isaiah 16:4 – Be a refuge to the outcasts of Moab.

Jeremiah 7:5-7 – “If you do not oppress the alien…then I will dwell with you in this place…”

Jeremiah 22:3-5 – Do no wrong or violence to the alien.

Ezekiel 47:21-22 – The aliens shall be to you as citizens, and shall also be allotted an inheritance.

Zechariah 7:8-10 – Do not oppress the alien.

Malachi 3:5 – The messenger will bear witness against those who thrust aside the alien.

Matthew 5:10-11 –“Blessed are those who are persecuted.”

Matthew 25:31-46 – “…I was a stranger and you welcomed me.”

Luke 3:11 – “Whoever has two coats must share with anyone who has none…”

Romans 12:13 – “Mark of the true Christian: “…Extend hospitality to strangers…”

Ephesians 2:11-22 – “So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God.”

Hebrews 13:1-2 – “…show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels…”

James 2:14-17 – “What good is it…if you say you have faith but do not have works?”

I John 3:18 – “…Let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action.”

I John 4:7-21 – “Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God…”  We love because God first loved us.”

You don't have to agree with this, but if you are a Christian, you must accept the teachings as they are the underpinning of the faith. All that the Bishop did was to refence the Christian faith, which is appropriate for a Christian Church. That's her job.

If the Trumps wanted a celebration of hedonism, they should have  gone for  a debauched night at a  Las Vegas casino, complete with strippers and hookers.

It was a travesty to have multiple unrepentant adulterers sitting their smirking and treating the sermon as a political exercise and not a moment of attestation to the Christian faith.

You know, I don't recall her quoting any of those passages. She made no reference to scripture at all. She DID take pains to mention all the modern woke identity groups though. Tells you where her priorities are.

As for multiple adulterers being in church... isn't that the best place for them to be? I kinda remember Jesus breaking bread with the tax collectors and ladies of questionable repute, but I could be wrong.

re. 'speculation' - feck me we've all seen enough of this pair over the years and if you don't see what I and most others have, that tells us something about you, as does your posting 'style'.

re. whatever the 'arrangement' is, her rewards for keeping quiet if they split would be handsome.

re. "nothing to do with the discussion at hand" - maybe not directly, but I made an observation in passing and a Forum is for discussion.

Next time, try and keep up - post when the discussion is current maybe?

So we should take advice from a woman whose whole life is dedicated to convincing people that there is a fairy in the sky that will take care of them.

Why does she just not ask the fairy in the sky to take care of the illegal aliens and the lgbt crowd, rather than asking Trump?

Are jaywalkers criminals or did they commit a crime?

You'll be hard pressed to find people who object to deporting undocumented people who have committed SERIOUS crimes.

Most everyone would support that enthusiastically as I do.

But Trump's stated plan of wholesale mass deportation is destructive and unwise.

Rather we should be seeking bipartisan immigration reform.

Ironically, someone like him could possibly pass that ever elusive rational and civilized goal, but instead he's going for cruel, fascism theater that will greatly damage the economy.

The Republican Party is closely associated with religious conservatism, while the Democratic Party includes a larger proportion of religiously unaffiliated individuals.

It is the right, by and large that are (or pretend to be) religious/Christians.....isn't your daddy's favourite book The Bible....🤭

Her sermon was based upon the teachings of the gospel. No one is forcing you to accept them. However, as she is a member of the clergy of that Church it is to be expected that she would base her sermon on her faith's principles.

You were not being asked to take advice from the Bishop, nor were you obliged to  be in the Church. However, if you attend a Church service, you should expect to hear the gospel. Don't agree? Fine, then don't go. Trump was looking for a  photo opp and was surprised to discover that some people still take the  Christian faith seriously.

Mr. Trump and his entourage attended the Church service  under the premise of being Christians. It was to be expected that the minister would base her sermon on the Christian faith. No one compelled you to accept those teachings. It seems that the serial adulterers would have been more comfortable in the company of those who were not of the Christian faith. That's their choice. However, don't show up in a Church and  expect to have cruelty and wickedness praised or endorsed. The Bishop acted in accordance of her sincere Christian faith. If you want snake charmers and entertainment, try one of the Evangelical churches that collect money for the corrupt clergy.

You have no evidence of hate. She did not speak hatefully of Mr. Trump. As a Christian clergy member she must not hate people.

You don't like her sermon. Fine. Good for you. You don't have to attend activities in the Church she ministers at and then you won't hear her sermons. Mr. Trump and his entourage went for a photo opp, not to  participate in the sharing of the faith.
