What a terrible waste.  They should spend the money on driver education.

Or the air pollution. In that case the money would be for better health for ALL people.

Let's say a transgender has a broken leg. Of course that should be fixed, like for men and women.

But hormones because they want to be different?

And then later on when tried that change their mind again and wants to transform back again. That is quite common.

Thailand, always a decade or two behind the west. The tide is turning in the west now, good decent people have had enough of this nonsense. In the USA now the offical government policy if there are 2 genders, male and female. Hopefully other countries like UK, Australia, European countries will follow suit.

The rest of the world will follow this common sense approach for sure. Thailand will soon see that the wind has changed and cancel this ludicrous nonsense because it's warped and anti-human.

Why is that something Thai taxpayers, me included, should pay for?

And why do they need hormones? If a biological male thinks he is a woman or he wants to be a woman, then what's the point of additional hormones? So that he feels even more like a woman or what?

It is doubtful that your tax remittance covers the benefits and government services that you receive.

Patients receive hormones as part of a medical procedure that allows the gender transition. One cannot think oneself through a transition.

Private discretionary hormone use is not paid for by the government. Included in this expenditure is HRT offered to menopausal women.

If people (any gender) want to kill themselves then let them kill themselves.

Honestly. You think it's better for people to kill themselves than live happily as transgender?

Posted

Thailand has a population of 71.8m. Of that number only 11m are registered to pay tax and only 4m actually pay tax.

This is a 145m initiative, I.e. that is the figure set aside for trans hormone healthcare. Depending  on which metric you use that's 36b or 11b per taxpayer.

So it's not about expense is it? It's about aggression towards Trans people.

That's not what I said.

a) People kill themselves for many reasons. And some who were rescued kill themselves later. And some just live a miserable life after they were rescued. People who are happy or see a bright future don't kill themselves.

b) It is a myth that if some people would only get medical attention like hormones, then they would be happy. And obviously it's a myth that if they don't get that medical attention then they will kill themselves

It's like women who go to a clinic to get bigger tits or a bigger ass or whatever is currently in fashion. Are they all happy after such procedure? No. Would they have killed themselves without that procedure? Unlikely.

Would they all be better off concentrating on their mental problems? Yes.

Really?

I pay income tax in Thailand. I also pay VAT, etc.

I prefer that that money is used productive.

Obviously, lots of money is wasted in many areas, not just above.

But the above article is about wasting taxpayers' money on hormone treatments. This is why I commented about wasting tax on hormone treatment.

Because, IMHO, it's a waste of money.

Good for tourism.

Ladyboy shows will be more authentic and don’t try to tell me you have never done a ladyboy.

You responded to a post about transgender people getting hormone treatment being better than suicide by stating that " If people (any gender) want to kill themselves then let them let kill themselves." It's crystal clear what you were referring to. And obviously not all transgender will want to kill themselves if they don't get treatment but it's a risk. And dont equate medical procedures with non-medical enhancements. Screenshot_20250128_121650_Opera.jpg.527508610f7a37442afe5feadb1b0691.jpg

This is more akin to cosmetic surgery than "real" health care

And is it up to us to decide who gets what care? Chemo is expensive, should your mother get any?  OCD meds are expensive, maybe we don't need to treat the mentally ill. Where would you draw the line?

They would be better off using the funds from mental health treatment but I get it, Thailand is a tourist destination, so might as well encourage the mentally ill trannys so they can keep leaching money from the sexually disturbed tourists that seek them out.

Here in Siem, the tranny gangs hang around Pub Street to victimize tourists. They are owned/pimped by the police.  I wonder how many trannys in Thailand are owned.

Its sort of like the underage boys who get pimped out in Boys Town in Pattaya, a place that is rapidly reaching the notoriety of the old K11. Somebody is making money from the disturbed minds of the Homosexual/transexuals

I am happy you are getting yours and I hope everyone else is getting the care they need as well.

My mother died recently as well, she got her chemo as well.

Sensationalizing more than a little. Not all transgenders are in the sex trade. The biggest money being made is right wing bigots fund raising by spreading lies about gays and transgenders.

Please identify the purported lies being spread and the source thereof.

As many as 75% of the so called Ladyboys are in the sex trade, if you trust Wikpedia.

You first.

That is not all is it? Wiki is not that reliable but I have my doubts about the 75%. Maybe for the 20 to 35 cohort but not all.

Meanwhile the Thai government can only afford to give some pensioners 600 baht per month.

Sad but irrelevant.

I fail to see how its irrelevant that a government can spend 145 million baht on people who are not ill but decide they wish to be a different gender to that of their birth when they pay just 600 baht pension to some of the poorest people in the country. They are spending tax payers money on something that is a matter of choice.

Yes, these people haven't paid social security - many because their earnings have been too low to be able to afford to pay it. Some have worked all their lives in scorching heat to produce the country's staple food for which they are paid a pittance. Many are in poor health and need additional money for associated expenses.

I wonder how many of us could live on 600 baht per month? Thank god for the Thai family system that many elderley people rely on.

But they do have health care and that is what is being provided. Who else would you like to deny health care to?

How about giving these people hormones that match their actual gender? Would that not be a better fix?

I can state this much, giving people hormones of the opposite sex stands a high likelyhood of messing with their head and causing them further mental problems.  I was given female hormones as part of a cancer treatment and I can tell you it is very unpleasant. Yes, I've heard all the jokes about wanting to wear a skirt etc. but its a serious matter. You don't start feeling like a member of the opposite sex as per the jokes.

As another patient stated in a pamphlet I was given before starting the treatment - 'the only way I can describe it is that you lose your identity' - you wake up in the morning, look in the mirror and don't know who you are' - its an extremely weird feeling. So much so that I was prepared to take the risk of ending the treatment a year before I should have.

If the Thai government think this treatment will help stabilise transgender people mentally, all I can say is that my experience was the opposite.
