Are markets still relevant?

Anyhow last time I was in Pattaya I hopped off to the night bazaar ,

 

Hopping around I found most goods were cheaper in Lazada and Ali baba etc 

I'm wondering are markets relevant anymore ,do you still buy at markets ?

The night bazaar in Pattaya seems to be dominated by Nepalese/ indian stall holders 

I couldn't be bothered haggling whilst hopping around 

 

Do you still buy from markets ?

Or online

Well, few tourists buy anything, especially tourist junk from online stores. In addition to that, hard for them to get the same feeling as wandering in tourist market alleys from browsing lazada. Staying in room watching TV or browsing aliexpress would probably make them asking why did I come here anyway so they go out. 

 

Comparable to question of whether  agogo's are still relevant. Residents I believe is fairly small percentage of customers there just like in tourist markets, and no matter who the customer is, they go there  for the experience, not really because of the product 

 

In both cases (tourist markets and agogos) you can order the actual product or service online at much lower price. Just that the experience of shopping is very different. 

 

Residents rarely go to either as they had enough of the experience. They just want the product or service at good price delivered to their home.

Well if you will frequent the HiSo tourist places like that, manned by colourful and exotic immigrants from the sub-continent, what else did you expect? Try heading off to a real Thai market next time, like Talad Kwai on Thepprasit, manned by horny-handed Thai sons (and daughters!) of toil.

If you insist on staying (or god forbid) living in a 'high turdist' area, expect the (frankly obvious) consequences to price, quality and attitude that your God given right feels it deserves.

As one of a mere handful (singular) of farang in our chosen spot, the idea of getting ripped off is risible, and  pointless.

If you insist on hanging about in the 'authentic' (bwahaha) spots, expect silly prices and <deleted>e quality.

I have no response to your reference to online markets, idiots do as idiots will...

My GF buys fruit and vegetables in the day markets. Makro, Tops and Big C for anything else by way of food.

 

I buy stuff on Lazada which I can't find in the three B&M stores.

I go regularly to fresh markets in Bangkok. >99% Thai people, fresh products, good prices.

Supermarkets and Makro have their place for buying bulk stuff like potatoes,paper towels, soap etc....

 

But the selection on Lazada is so vast and well priced that I now do quite a bit of food shopping online...

 

As far as the markets selling consumer goods....Forget it....Lazada puts them to shame.....
