many details of the proposed "deal" are publicly available, for example here:

https://www.understandingwar.org/backgrounder/fact-sheet-istanbul-protocol-draft-document-april-15-2022

and here

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/06/15/world/europe/ukraine-russia-ceasefire-deal.html

(this link possibly has a paywall, but I already accessed it freely)

you will see that the proposal was totally unacceptable.

So, did Zelensky’s trip to the US achieve anything other than to PO the POTUS?

It's nothing to the left but an attempt to humiliated Trump. They really care nothing about Ukraine, if they did, they would have spoken up when Obama threw Ukraine under the bus for a bit of space until after his second election.

Of course he won't.

Zelensky should take the deal as he is unlikely to get a better. Let's be clear, Zelensky is NOT the big dog here, he came to the US as a beggar, not as the guy in charge.

Was it a trap, as some surmise? If it was, Zelensky jumped into it boots and all, and should have known better. Seems like he doesn't know how to deal with Trump, who is the man with ALL the cards.

If Zelensky thinks he can get a "security guarantee" from Trump that commits the US to getting involved in the war, he is demented. Trump gets out of wars, he doesn't get into them.

While the Euros are rallying around Zelensky, it's all talk- even with the US support under Biden, Ukraine was losing the war in the east, and if the US stops supplying weapons and munitions, it's unlikely that the Euros can reverse the loss on their own.

The danger now is that they will supply missiles that can attack Moscow, and then it's really into uncharted territory, but it won't end well for Ukraine.

Ukraine has held off on its drone attacks recently, possibly while waiting to see the outcome of Zelensky's meeting with Trump, but now that's over, in more ways than one, they seem to be ramping things up again. A couple of days ago they attacked an LPG shipment facility in the Sea of Azov, and last night they carried out a long range attack on an oil refinery at Ufa, the first time this place has been targeted.  For a country with no cards to play, they sure keep dealing it out to Russian oil and gas facilities.
