Thanks.  I've been wondering about that.  BTW, I thought weed was going to be reclassified by Jan 1, 2025 so these party hardy guys would hopefully go away.

Absolute nobsters... 

 

I see two issues here...    both due to 'stigma'..

 

1) The Stigma that in area's such as this (Patong) Police put up check-points only to get money from Foreigners. 

2) The Stigma by the Police that all foreigners are breaking the laws.

 

The reality is both of these stigmas are true - but how many Thai's do the BiB try and stop at these check points ???

 

Obviously the French fools not wearing helmets needed to be stopped and fined, and have their motorcycles confiscated (which happened here) - thats the best action causing the most inconvenience to them.

.... But, instead, more commonly, those fined are do not have their motorcyclist confiscated, they pay, then are free to continue riding breaking the law without helmets.... thus cementing the fact that Money is more important to the BiB than safety. 

 

 

Saying all of that - there is no doubt that these riders were absolute idiots and if anyone suggest they should be deported for breaking such laws in such a brazen manner, then I'd agree - for next time it could be one of these fools mowing down and killing a pedestrian at a crossing.

 

 

But... I'd also like to see 'equal enforcement' for Thai's and foreigners.....     I see equal and fair enforcement in areas such as Bangkok where having driven and ridden here for a long time I am of the impression that foreigners are no more or less of a target than any other road user.... simple fair treatment - I'd like to see the same in other area's...  and that means a lot of people getting caught for breaking the rules, whatever their nationality.

Why ?.....  Is 'high risk alien' and actual thing ???.....     and who decides....

 

Do they actually go to court and are charged... or are they simply deported....     and IF deported, on what grounds ?

 

There are legal requirements that need to be met before all the expert laymen on here can enforce their 'deport and black list' them rulings...

Should they be permitted to if it turns out the riders did not have a license ??... After all, isn't it illegal to rent out motorcycles to those without motorcycle licenses ?

Indeed....  And its not really racist to describe them as French Arabs right ???.....    is it any different from describing someone as Thai Chinese ?

 

There is also the other facet of what may be considered by some to be behavior that one 'group' is known for above others...

 

i.e. every time I read about 'gangs of foreign' motorcyclists tearing up the streets of Pattaya, I think Kuwaiti's....  simply because I've read this so much in the news here.

 

So... When I read 'Frenchmen arrested for running police check-point' my first thought was that they were French Arabs.... I don't think its racists to have this bias based on exposure and experience....   But, it would be racist to talk negatively of a French person just because he is also an Arab.... there is a subtle difference and some people are attempting to shoehorn racism out of simple observations.
