Missing Man Found Dead in Eucalyptus Forest After Four Days

A 51-year-old man, missing for four days, was found dead in a eucalyptus forest in Chachoengsao province. His charred remains were discovered by friends and family who had been searching for him after noticing a foul smell in the area.

At 15:15 on 31 January, police from Phanom Sarakham Police Station received a report of a burned body found in a eucalyptus plantation in Moo 9, Koh Khanun subdistrict, Phanom Sarakham district. Officers, along with forensic experts and rescue teams, were dispatched to the scene.

The deceased was identified as Mr. Kiangkrai, 51, a resident of Na Kae district, Nakhon Phanom province. His badly burned body was found lying on its back, surrounded by scorched grass. A lighter was found nearby, and initial examinations revealed no signs of struggle or physical assault.

According to friends and relatives, Mr. Kiangkrai was a habitual drinker who suffered from mobility issues and poor eyesight. He had last been seen four days earlier, when he took his cattle to graze in the area. When he failed to return home, his loved ones began searching for him.

During the search, they discovered his herd of cattle on the other side of the forest. Later, they noticed a strong, unpleasant odour and followed it to the grim discovery of his burned remains.

Authorities believe that Mr. Kiangkrai may have started a fire to keep warm, only for it to spread uncontrollably, ultimately causing his death. However, an autopsy has been ordered to confirm the exact cause.

The body has been transferred for forensic examination before being released to the family for religious rites. Investigations are ongoing to rule out foul play.
