Yes, the police and Thais involved will gang up against the farang. Fact.

If it's farang v farang the police will side with the farang offering the larger kick back. Fact / True story.

.......handcuffed me to a pickup, and dragged me back to jail.”......

Three hundred and seventy pounds dragged behind a pickup.I sure someone would have captured that on dashcaam.

same photo of the fat guy on the floor and exposed the harsh prison conditions.

Is this the same fat guy who, on the forum, reportedly evacuated his bowels on a public street, and then went skinny-dipping in the temple pool next-door?

I always wondered what had become of him.

And now, here he is, not just once, but twice if you count the first time he showed up in prison, in last week's story.

Probably the same guy, and he never seems to move, either.

He remains chained to the prison bars in perpetuity.

Wish we knew his name so that we could learn more about him, and how he ended up where he is now.

This happens, for every one case in the news there are many others that don't hit the headlines. I have travelled to Thailand since 1995 and had a few events but this took the cake in my wife's home town Sakon Nakhon Isan. One day in town looking for a dentist to get some new dentures. Rather than explain here what happened I will share the link as the only way to stop this event was the website. The RTP were of no use they were scared of the lady dentist as they all had a section M65 or whatever they called it against them, many in town we were told later knew of her antics and that she had the power and was nuts. I had my Thai lawyer and the backing of a rich Thai family but this was no match for her she wanted big money from me as she had got in the past from similar accusations on Thai people. All the police about 6 of them in the Sakon office had a case against them for one or another reason ( Not prosecuting people) and would not touch the case for simple fear of her. So we had to wait a week or so for a new office to the area to deal with our case. They just had to do what she ordered and they harassed the family in the village calling my wife and even attempting to stop us from flying back to the UK. Even in the UK, it did not stop the family was harassed till I built the site and wrote to the Dental Association BKK.

I lived in Thailand for 10 years, visited several times before moving there, and never had problems (admittedly I only ever spent one night in Pattaya, Chiang Mai was more to my liking). I guess it does happen, but he must have really had some bad luck. Worse thing that ever happened to me was taxi drivers overcharging. Once I learned the buses, I had an alternative to that... Ohhh and the dual pricing at tourist attractions, though not in my neighborhood (Ladphrao Rd)

The system is definitely rigged against farangs, that's undeniable. But it always keeps an appearance of normalcy, until something is triggered. He somehow triggered it. Yes, the police and Thais involved will gang up against the farang. Fact.

Totally agree with you, but this episode with this guy is really way out there. If it happened the way he said, he must have really upset someone! I  believe something has been missed out of this story!

Given that the photos are the same as a January story about a guy banged up for overstay, I wonder if Thailand can sue the Mail for damaging their tourism business?

Edit:  On an aside, if I was the king (or owner) of AN, I'd be a little worried, too.

2 articles recently posted on AN are both:

a) detrimental to Thai tourism and the public image of Thai law enforcement

b) of questionable veracity because they're using the exact same photos to depict 2 different cases.

IMO, that opens AN up to liability for falsely harming Thai tourism.

I have some respect for you because of your post count, but in recent months AN has improved a lot, especially with a lot of good information for us expats. I do not believe that the "king" or any Admins would be responsible for the mix up with the photo's.

I'm actually favorably impressed with AN recently.  But it doesn't matter what I think.  What matters is the Powers That Be in LOS.

My post wasn't a slam of AN.  I fear they could be liable for the lunacy coming from The Mail (and other sources) because they do curate their content, and select what they include.
