The flow of illegals and fentanyl across the Canadian border was already minimal. The same outcome could have been achieved without all the noise show for MAGA and truly annoying a close ally. Let's see what difference the actions by Mexico make, one would have though the migrant policy changes by trump would already had sufficient impact on illegals flow. What additional resources has trump committed to interdict fentanyl, opioid abuse within USA and weapons shipments to Mexico?

PRC has already announced additional tariffs on the US.

1% of the fentanyl is responsible for 1,000 American deaths a year.

Do you care about those people or their families?

Hilarious.

The same people trafficking illegal aliens and drugs across into the United States are trafficking guns into Mexico.

Hopefully, these people will be exterminated.

Did you ever see pictures of those guys with FN belt feds? Aint getting those in the USA. Must be those tough export controls in Europe

Oh Look, China is also caving in to Trump's threats. The Donnie keeps winning NOT

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/chinas-finance-ministry-announces-tariffs-052845300.html

The country's finance ministry announced the package of tariffs on a range of US products in an immediate response to a 10% tariff across Chinese imports into the US that came into effect at 12:01 a.m. ET on Tuesday.

Within minutes, China's Finance Ministry said it would impose levies of 15% for U.S. coal and LNG and 10% for crude oil, farm equipment and some autos. The new tariffs on U.S. exports will start on Feb. 10, the ministry said.

China also said it was starting an anti-monopoly investigation in Alphabet Inc's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google, while including both PVH Corp (PVH), the holding company for brands including Calvin Klein, and U.S. biotechnology company Illumina (ILMN) on its "unreliable entities list".

The important thing was to get Mexico to concede that they need to take action on the border.  All those migrants traipsing from south to north across Mexico are not just America's problem.

How they eventually handle it is anyone's guess.  It's still early days.

Edit:  Trump doesn't want a trade war.  But he's signaled that he's not afraid of one.

Mexico has long since drastically reduced the numbers of people crossing the border.

As for those troops stopping the fentanyl trade. As the US enforcement agencies have repeatedly noted, most Fentanyl comes to the US via goods that are manufactured in Mexico. Not via individuals crossing the border.  Given how huge that amount is, and how little space fentanyl occupies, it's pretty much a hopeless task to try and keep the stuff out. And using the Mexican armed forces to interdict it, given the fact that they are deeply in league with the drug cartels, is worse than useless.

As for Trump not wanting a trade war. He's been going on and on about  big beautiful tariffs and how they're going to fund the government. And how they're going to bring back manufacturing to the U.S.  A more sensible conclusion is that Trump blinked.

Yeah, when "Open Border Czar" Harris was trying to get elected, Mexico drastically reduced the numbers of people crossing the border.

Well, hopefully, any Mexican armed forces helping the cartels get exterminated with the cartels.

Do you support declaring the cartels terrorist organizations?

As usual, Trump is just pretending to solve problems and doesn't address the real issues.

As you mentioned, drugs mainly enter the U.S. thought legal ports of entry, hidden in cars, or in shipments by truck, train, etc...

There's nothing troops patrolling the border outside these legal port of entry can do about it. The only way is to improve detection means, and to increase the frequency of  vehicles and shipment search at those ports of entry.

Not to mention that there is drug trafficking because there is a demand. I also don't see what Trump intends to do in order to decrease demand.

Only because you don't want to see.

Trump is eliminating the globalist criminal syndicate that has run the world for at least the last century, and turned it into the cesspool it is today. There always has been, and always will be depression amongst humanity. But lack of purpose due to elevating profit and greed to the status of a virtue, combined with a social structure that prevents most people from ever attaining it, is what has caused such an egregious increase in the drug demand.  And the globalists are ready with the drugs to fuel that escapism. And no, communism and tyranny isn't the answer.

Freedom is the answer.  And that is what Trump is restoring. Letting people do whatever they feel called to do, as long as it doesn't impinge on the freedom of others to live their lives. That's why the left hates him. That's why the globalists who want to enslave humanity hate him. They aren't content with bettering themselves. They want to control you. That's ultimately what all of this is about.

Really think this is just an ordinary war? Think again. A lot is going to be revealed in the near future. Trump isn't your enemy, but he is going to destroy those social institutions which no longer serve humanity. And if you've become dependent on those institutions, it'll be rough for you.

Did anyone say there were going to stop 100% of drugs coming across the border?

Taking control of the border and finishing the wall can free up resources to use at ports of entry.

Exterminating the as many cartel members as possible will help reduce supply.

And if the supply is reduced such that the price goes from $5 to $50 a bump, people will use less.

So not prioritising to stop drug from enterering the U.S. where it actually mainly enters, is the best solution. 55555 😆

The priority is stopping illegal immigration.

Fentanyl is secondary.

Illegal immigration is actually too narrow. That implies consent. It's really all kinds of human trafficking. And in particular, child trafficking.  It's a much worse problem than people realize or understand. America isn't ready for that conversation yet.

Sure they are on hold I would have bet on it. Why do you think he gave a couple of weeks notice , he was seeing how much blow back he was going to get from his own people. Also by holding off he can get brownie points for being a reasonable guy. He has the makings of a good  poker player.

Fentanyl is secondary.

Nearly 199000 illegals crossed from Canada to the USA last year.

Mostly using the Swanton area.

A very small amount compared to the many millions crossing the south border.

Here is what Trump said what he would do.

Trump said in a Truth Social post on Monday: “On January 20th, as one of my many first Executive Orders, I will sign all necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25% Tariff on ALL products coming into the United States, and its ridiculous Open Borders.”

Trump caved.

Don't follow. How did Trump cave? Trudeau had agreed to close the borders at the meeting in Nov. Trudeau allocated $1.3 billion to do it in December. Trudeau then caved to his handlers, went back on the agreement and didn't actually send the troops to patrol the borders. Trump announced the 25% tariffs the day he was back in office. Trudeau then tried to stir up nationalism, but eventually caved and agreed a 2nd time to the deal he made in Nov. Trump has given him 30 days to prove he's going to make good on it this time.

How is that Trump caving?  Trump is being overly generous with a snake of a man is all.
