It seems they purchased a house in a 'retirement' community. The Thai court system, follows the rule of law. They don't automatically side with Thais, the court will look at all aspects and I'd be very surprised if the Thais don't end up paying. The Thais filing a counter claim is a delaying tactic and the Judges will see that. From the article “We rented at first then spent around £200,000 on a villa in a new retirement complex. We were so happy.” But their dream life turned sour after returning from a shopping trip to find developers undergoing building work on their property. And their neighbours said they now owned the access road to it. A row broke out and the Byrnes managed to stop the development on their land for three months after hiring a lawyer and discovering the local residents had no legal right to muscle in on their home. -

A fourth suspect remains on the run. The case began when insurance companies flagged the suspicious death of 32-year-old Wichian Jityen, who allegedly fell from a pickup truck on February 10. The truck's driver, Somsak, claimed Wichian fell and was then run over by another vehicle. However, discrepancies in the accident narrative, coupled with unusually high insurance coverage on the vehicles involved, heightened suspicions. Initially charged with reckless driving, the drivers, Pornchanok and Peeraphat, along with Somsak, were linked to what appeared to be a staged accident. Further doubt was cast by Wichian's lack of typical accident-related injuries, prompting insurance companies to halt a payout exceeding 14 million baht. The plot thickened when Wichian’s sister, Buarian, confessed suspicions about the alleged mastermind, Sakon. Aware of Wichian's drug issues and past violence towards their family, she had, in anger, implored Sakon to "take him away and kill him"—words she insists were not meant literally. With Buarian's revelations, arrest warrants were issued. Three suspects are now in custody, while Pornchanok remains elusive. One suspect admitted to the murder plan and accident staging, whereas the others deny involvement. Key motives are yet unclear, leaving open questions about whether financial gain or Buarian’s desperate plea prompted the crime.
