NOT that I want to go there but who controls the border? I assume not Myanmar Immigration. Thais can make a land crossing to Myanmar but not Farangs I assume.

For there to be some sort of border crossing, otherwise why is it there, how does Thailand recognise the Karen state?

If you have read somewhere that "Thailand recognise the Karen state", it means that Thailand recognises, ie acknowledges, the fact that the government of Myanmar has given a region in Myanmar the name Kayin State, formerly known as Karen State.

It is analogues to recognising that Florida is part of the USA or that Wales is part of the UK.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Just so you and every other foreigner understands ALL the burma borders are closed to foreigners getting out and back except one

  • Ranong - Kawthaung (Ranong Province) OPEN <-this is the boat crossing you do to burma
  • Mae Sai - Tachileik (Chiang Rai Province) CLOSED
  • Mae Sot - Myawaddy (Tak Province) CLOSED
  • Phu Nam Ron - Htee Kee (Kanchanaburi Province) CLOSED

We all know what recognise means is the diplomatic sense.
