Put up parking cost, hire 1000 people to enforce it.

20 min parking=10 baht, parking fine 500 baht.

Pretty easy with a parking app, Thais love their apps.

Thailand as a whole just does not grasp the concept of footpaths, Signs, light posts, low hanging awnings, tyre repair shops, motor bike repair shops, flower pots, broken drain covers, exposed electric cables, low hanging electric cables, used to have telephone boxes in the middle of the footpaths - now just the bolts remain sticking up 555!!

When I venture out from my home, I take the attitude that Thais are trying to end my life, actively with horrendous driving, 2 or 4 wheels, each with own death bite; or more passively as in this case: holes, trip mechanisms (concrete or wrought iron), head bonkers, electrical wiring surprises, things falling from the skies.. Seems to work

Bangkok is just the same.

Always look down while walking. Holes, broken tiles, dogs' mess. Not fun in the evening during rainy season.

This is one of the things I really hate about Thailand. That you can't wander along 2 or 3 abreast with a couple of friends, enjoying the scenery and watching what's going on around you. You can rarely walk even 2 abreast, and either way have to keep your eyes firmly a few meters on the 'sidewalk' ahead.

 

It's become so ingrained in me now that back home I deliberately avoid manhole covers, drains and grills - I just don't trust them any more.

Unless one has eyes like a chameleon that can rotate independently it is quite difficult... you either walk into things, get hit by a motorcycle going the wrong way, or step into an ankle breaker.
