Threat to US: Iran Unveils Drone Carrier Warship

Iran has taken a major step in bolstering its naval power by unveiling its first-ever drone-carrier warship, according to the state-run IRNA news agency. The new vessel, named Shahid Bagheri, is designed for long-range operations and could pose a new challenge to U.S. forces in the region, as well as to Iran’s long-time adversary, Israel.

This development comes at a time of heightened tensions, particularly as former U.S. President Donald Trump continues to enforce his "maximum pressure" strategy against Tehran. Trump's hardline stance has seen him reimpose sanctions on Iran, while also warning the nation that it would face devastating consequences if it attempted to assassinate him. Despite his firm position, Trump has also signaled a willingness to negotiate a nuclear deal with Iran.

 

 

Iran’s growing military presence at sea is a clear indicator of its ongoing strategy to achieve self-sufficiency in defense capabilities. The Shahid Bagheri, which is operated by the Revolutionary Guard’s navy, carries multiple squadrons of drones, helicopters, and cruise missiles. IRNA reported that the warship includes a 180-meter-long drone runway and boasts an impressive range of up to 22,000 nautical miles (25,300 miles) without requiring refueling at port. This means it could theoretically circumnavigate the globe, significantly expanding Iran’s maritime reach. The ship, converted from a commercial vessel, also includes facilities such as a hospital and a gym, making it more sustainable for extended missions.

Iran’s ambitions in military technology have been evident for years. The country has been actively developing its own submarines, tanks, and jet fighters to reduce reliance on foreign military imports. The addition of the Shahid Bagheri is yet another step toward projecting Iranian naval power into international waters. During its inauguration, state TV footage showcased at least four helicopters and three drones positioned on the ship’s deck, underscoring its operational readiness.

 

Trump’s "maximum pressure" campaign has been a defining feature of U.S.-Iran relations in recent years. The former president recently reaffirmed his approach by reintroducing economic sanctions and increasing diplomatic pressure on Tehran. Trump stated that his strategy is proving effective in isolating Iran, but he also hinted at the possibility of future negotiations. At the same time, he made it clear that any attack on his life would trigger devastating retaliation. "I have left instructions for my advisers that if Iran assassinates me, they would be obliterated," Trump declared.

 

As Iran continues to strengthen its military capabilities, global and regional powers will closely monitor the impact of the Shahid Bagheri’s deployment. Its presence in international waters represents a significant shift in Tehran’s naval strategy, signaling Iran's commitment to expanding its influence beyond the Persian Gulf. Its a sitting duck, its no threat whatsoever, let alone being offensive. Its a joke, watch the second vid, some of the so called drones are remote controlled toys............

This new ship poses no threat to the US and very little to nearby Gulf nations.  The US defense systems could easily blast this ship out of the water at any time they desire.  Let Iran play with their new toy.

Looks like a re-purposed container ship.  One good hit midships should fold her in half.

Also with all their aircraft being unmanned remote control there should be some cracking opportunities for causing the ordnance to detonate while waiting for take-off.  Or re-directed to go back and bomb them.

On the other hand if it is really a container ship it was made to carry a lot of weight, which would allow for the ship to be heavily armored -- that runway could be three feet of steel thick.
