A man got the shock of his life when he opened his car bonnet to check the engine oil, only to find a massive python coiled inside. The snake later slithered under the vehicle, prompting a rescue operation by local wildlife responders.

The incident occurred on the evening of 9 February in Ban Krot Subdistrict, Bang Pa-in District, Ayutthaya. The Ayutthaya Ruamjai Rescue Foundation received a distress call regarding a large python hiding in the engine bay of a Mitsubishi Pajero. The car’s owner, Mr Suwat 64, had made the discovery while conducting routine maintenance.

Rescue officers arrived at the scene and found the vehicle, registered in Bangkok, parked near a residential estate. Mr Suwat, visibly shaken, pointed out where the snake had vanished under the vehicle.

Responders carefully inspected the underside of the car and spotted the python tightly coiled around the chassis. After 15 minutes of careful manoeuvring, the snake began to loosen its grip and emerge. The team successfully pulled it free, revealing an impressive specimen measuring around 3 metres in length and weighing approximately 8 kilograms.

The snake was safely placed in a transport container and later released into a natural habitat.

Mr Suwat later explained that he had driven the vehicle from Lopburi, where it had been parked for a week. He believes the snake may have hitched a ride from there.

“I tried to remove it myself, but it escaped under the car. I couldn’t find it, so I called the rescue team,” he said.

Despite the frightening encounter, Mr Suwat saw the event in a positive light, believing the snake’s appearance, especially its connection to his car registration number, could bring good fortune.

Just start the engine and let it come up to normal temperature, no more snake under the hood.
