A violent confrontation in Bangkok’s Bang Khen District has left one suspect dead following a failed motorcycle theft. The incident occurred during the morning of 11 February, when two suspects attempted to steal a motorcycle.

At approximately 11:00, officers from the Khan Na Yao Police Station had gathered intelligence about a group of thieves known for stealing motorcycles in the area. They set up a sting operation at an underpass near Soi Wat Siriphong. The suspects, two men dressed in black and wearing full-face helmets, were seen riding a Yamaha XMAX before attempting to steal a Honda Wave 125.

As the officers moved in to arrest the suspects, one pulled out a firearm and opened fire at the police. In response, the officers fired two shots at the suspect riding on the back of the motorcycle, hitting him in the head and thigh. The suspect fell to the ground and was later pronounced dead at the scene. The second suspect managed to flee the scene on the motorcycle.

Shortly after the incident, the stolen motorcycle was discovered abandoned nearby. Police have launched a manhunt for the second suspect, whose identity remains unknown.

The dead suspect was identified as Suphach, aged 24, who had been involved in several similar thefts in the past. Police found his body at the scene with gunshot wounds to his head and thigh. The Honda Wave he had attempted to steal was left behind.

Suphach’s wife, who is nine months pregnant, arrived at the scene in tears. Speaking to reporters, she expressed shock and disbelief, stating that her husband had never been involved in criminal activities before. She described him as a hardworking man who had a shop selling household goods. “We’re about to have our first child, and now we’ve lost the breadwinner,” she said, grieving the loss of her husband.

The incident has raised concerns over the increasing levels of violent crime in the capital. Authorities have pledged to intensify efforts to track down the remaining suspect. Meanwhile, Suphach’s family is calling for justice, questioning why the police chose to use lethal force rather than arrest the suspects.

The owner of the stolen motorcycle, Aung, a 20-year-old Myanmar national, was later informed by the police that his bike had been recovered. He expressed gratitude for the return of his property but was disturbed by the escalation of events that led to the shootout. “I never expected things to escalate this way,” he said, adding that he forgave the suspects for their actions.

Justice was given. Now the family is seeking to find a way to collect money sounds more appropriate. The man fired at the police and they are questioning why the police returned fire?
