I am just looking at the scoring system on this competition and it seems strange...

If you correctly predict that one team will beat another team, it counts for very little - well 2 points. However, if you predict that one team scores x number of goals and they score x number of goals, you can get more points, regardless of the result.

Example. Arsenal and Chelsea play and the score is 4-3 (to Arsenal).

Person A predicts Arsenal to win 3-2, but only get 2 points even though they almost correctly got the score - I mean it was close. But only 2 points.

Person B predicts Chelsea to beat Arsenal 3-0. They get the score totally wrong, the result is a million miles away YET they get 3 points for correctly predicting Chelsea's 3 goals!!

Seems unfair that the correct result is almost worthless.

Or am I missing something???

Please can someone fill me in on the scoring as it seems skewed.

The rules are pretty simple. You DON'T get a point per goal unless its a totally 100% prediction.

POINTS SCORING: The points scoring will be as follows

1 point for each correct score

2 points for correct result

2 points for correct scores and result.

1point bonus for each goal scored in an absolute correct prediction (Sorry no extra for a correct 0-0)

So a total of 6 points are available plus bonus point per goal.

SO IF A MATCH RESULT WAS 3-1.

If you predicted 3-0. This would score 1 point for the 3 prediction and 2 points for the result thus you score 3 points.

If you predicted 1-1. This would score 1 point for the 1 prediction and no other points thus you score 1 point.

If you predicted 3-1. This would score 1 point for the 3 prediction and 1 point for the 1 prediction 2 points for correct result and a further 2 points for correct score thus you score a maximum 6 points. Plus 4 bonus points for each goal scored for a completely correct prediction giving a Total of 10 points.

Note: If you predicted 0-0 for a game and the result was 1-0 or 2-0 etc. You score no points. 0 only gets you points in the event of a totally correct score.

Hope that clears things up.

So what if someone predicts the result to be 2-1? How many points?

Depends on the result. If lets say they predict 2-1 and the result is 2-1. They get 9 points. If the score was 3-1 and they predict 2-1. They get 3 points. Why is this so difficult to understand? They get 2 points for the result and and 1 point for the 1 . These are the same rules as last year. Except the 0 rule.(unless an exact prediction.)

Ok - so if the score was 3-1, and you predict this correctly you get 10 points, but you only get 3 points if you predicted 2-1. (which isn't a bad guess imo)

I understand the points scoring system, I just don't understand the weighting. (as in the above example).

But it's your game and you're doing a good job, so I'll just keep my mouth shut from now on. :o

Cheers

But it's your game

Actually it was chonabots game originally. I have just taken over. The rules are virtually the same as last year. Only the points for 0 rule has changed.

There is always one. :o:D :D

I UNDERSTAND THE POINTS SCORING. OK

How many times do you want me to say it?

I just don't agree/understand the weighting of the points scoring. As I explained above.

Am I the only one that thinks this?

e.g (again). If you predict a 2-1 win you get 3 points, but if you predict (correctly) 3-1 win you get 10 points. ?????????

What's with that?

Depends if you played your Joker card or not :o

regarding the European qualifying for championships next year:

Nobody talks about Denmark as they're currently in fourth place within their group. They suffered a hard knock when, near the last gasp of a 3-3 tie with Sweden, a Danish fan ran out on the field and tried to strangle the ref. The ref knocked 3 Danish goals off the score and gave the game to the Swedes. The idiot Danish fan got fined a third of a million bucks.

I predict the Danes will go on to qualify.

...and a big hip-hip hurray for the Scots beating France recently!

I always root for the underdog.
