Tourist’s Hands Bitten Off by Shark in Photo Stunt Gone Wrong!

A Canadian tourist’s Caribbean holiday turned into a nightmare when a shark attacked her and bit off both of her hands just yards from the beach.

 

The 55-year-old woman was in the waters of the Turks and Caicos Islands, trying to take a picture of a 6ft shark when the predator struck.

 

Reports say she approached the shark in an attempt to engage with it for a photo. But things took a shocking turn when the shark lunged at her, biting off her hands in a brutal attack.

 

Witnesses watched in horror as the woman was pulled under by the shark. Her husband managed to fight off the shark, and she was dragged back to shore despite severe injuries.

 

Emergency services were quick to respond, and she was rushed to the hospital. Doctors had to amputate both of her hands at the wrists and forearms. Despite her horrific injuries, she is expected to survive.

Local authorities have warned that the shark was likely a bull shark, but this has not yet been confirmed. The beaches were temporarily closed following the attack, and tourists were advised to stay cautious.

 

Experts are reminding the public that while shark attacks are rare, approaching wildlife for photos can be extremely dangerous.This incident is a stark reminder of how unpredictable nature can be—especially when interacting with dangerous marine life.

Why do people not understand about wild mammals? Whilst I feel sorry for the woman, surely her friends should have warned her not to do such a thing, it's braindead and mindless.

I've encountered sharks that size while skin-diving in those waters.  Rather than approaching the shark I would always swim quietly away from them!

This kind of thing is proof that civilization is not moving forward any longer, but rather we are devolving as a society. If anybody questions whether or not there is intelligent life on other planets I believe Earth is proof that there is.

 

Can you just imagine if we were the only "intelligent life" in the universe? What a waste of space that would be!

People fall into the Grand Canyon taking selfies, fall off cliffs, fall down stairs, get into car accidents, mauled by tigers, gored by buffalo, hit by trains, fall off  trains, shoot themselves, get electrocuted, and blow themselves up with hand grenades all for that ultimate selfie. All to impress people on Facebook or Tik Tok they don't even know. After a few hundred stories like that, it's hard to remain sympathetic.

Very stupid. Bull sharks attack more humans than any other types. Very aggressive and known to kill people. Her act was like taking a selfie with an eastern brown snake. Got what she deserved.

I'm aware of all this. You see dumb things all the time, especially on Tiktok. You don't have to be symapathetic if you don't want to, that's your choice. Personally, I feel for the woman and her family despite her bad lack of judgement. That's my choice.

The only thing positive about this I can think of is at least she's 55 and not 25 with her whole life ahead of her. If you lose your hands your life is all but ruined so better to have made it nearly to retirement then well before.

I just saw this video on YouTube. Farang cycling is drafting a few feet from a trailer and the Thai driver yells at him for being stupid. Probably trying to get an easy Strava PR or some such nonsense. If that truck breaks even a little he's properly screwed.

The only time I take a selfie is for Immigration photos for a marriage extension, and I only do it if nobody else is around who can help.  Selfies - the quintessential statement of narcissism. Also a wonderful way to win a Darwin Award.

I feel bad for the woman, but I think it's a situation where we see all kinds of videos of people interacting with sharks and whatnot and people just think it's okay.

 

I'm surprised there's not more of this stuff. 

 

It is a bit sad so many people think it's funny.

Well, if she posts to Youtube she'll get a few millions hits.  If she monetizes, it may help with getting a couple of prosthetics.
