Has anyone in Bangkok checked their lungs?

Several Reddit posts have raised concerns about long-term residents in Bangkok. According to these accounts, people who have lived in the city for 10 years or more have reported lung conditions comparable to those of smokers.

Chiang Mai and the north is far worse.  Pattaya and Hua Hin are not much better than Bangkok.  Maybe you should apply your concern to the whole of Thailand or even Asia?

It has been said, "if you never had lung problems before you moved to Bangkok, you will in two years”. I spend as little time in Krung Thep as necessary, at least in Jom Tien we have off-shore breezes.

I think checking your lungs should be a yearly check because you need to establish a base line to make comparisons.  I'm not a doctor but every year when I do a physical my doctor comments "no changes from last year".

 83 years old, and living mainly in Bangkok for over 40 years, and until recently a cigarette smoker (now down to 1 small cigar per day), so far so good. No lung issues.

Lived in the Northeast about 17 or 18 years, which is almost as bad as Bangkok, and lungs have always been clear (non-smoker), per almost yearly x-ray.

I lived there for years, believe me it is a real thing. Miserable life with the air pollution. It's a fact it kills 20-30 thousand people a year.

I did yesterday. Had a complete cardio pulmonary stress test done at BKK hospital. Not only did I do 11 minutes on the treadmill with  an increasing incline and speed every 2 minutes my oxygen production was perfect. Lung scan showed totally clear. 

 

I was surprised and happy, I live in BKK but have been in Laksi and Don Muang the last 34 years. The last 10 I have run daily basically 7 days a week, They said this really helped my health. They wanted the machine to take me to 120 beat per minute, but topped at at 107 which again was very good.

What lung conditions ?

 

Anything specific ? - I've lived in Bangkok over two decades...  and carry out a full medical each year, which includes the stress-test (EKG on a tread-mill), spirometry, x-rays etc...   

 

While I'd certainly agree that living in Bangkok is less healthy for the respiratory system than living in somewhere such as Davos....  I'd also suggest your 'information' on reddit is somewhat paranoid and akin to spreading negative rumours....

Not necessarily true. But get a simple chest x-ray once a year to be sure. They aren’t expensive and can be done at diagnostic labs.
