There will be more and more highrises all around Pattaya under construction.  There will be a lot more Chinese living in Thailand along with Indians, Russians, and Pattaya will continue to grow.  There is still a lot of undeveloped beachfront or beach near land that is still a bargain compared to most other beach front properties around the world.  Jomtien high rises still have miles and miles of beach land to turn into condos and people from all over the world will be drawn to a cheaper more simple lifestyle where they can get away from all the political dramas.

The bars will continue to get pushed back away from beach front inland.  Poor Thais will continue to be drawn into the Pattaya area to try and make $$ from the increasing numbers of farangs with money to spend.

The Thai people will still be some of the nicest people on earth that will put up with all sorts of idiots who come here and show them very little respect.

Can feed, energize & defend itself.

Quite correct, although the proles would probably squeal when they can't get cheap imports.

You would also be introducing inefficiencies. Your steel industry would be making steel from the poorest grade of iron ore on the planet. You would be using expensive energy to produce aluminium.

If you can feed, energize and defend yourself, why are you so paranoid?

I'm not, and I don't even live there.  Picked a different country to live in, that can also feed and defend itself.  I chose to energize myself, and possibly feed myself, if I live that long.

For certain we will be less evolved than we are now. I think it's been about 30 years since civilization started to move in a backwards manner, and human evolution stopped in its tracks.

We are now devolving as a species, and that will continue to happen as long as social media and reality TV exist.

Australia provided $4.6 billion in aid in 2022. Based on population, we are actually more generous than you.

I very much doubt Thailand could defend itself, too many chiefs and not enough Indians. The Thais are more expert at fence-sitting.

Don't you feel deprived of your Second Amendment rights here? Or are you that rare person, a sensible American?

TH has no enemies to defend against.  Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Malaysia ... all ASEAN friendly neighbors.

Never needed 2nd Amendment in USA, and surely don't need it here, though 'wife' does have 12 gauge.

Keeps me in line ... :cheesy:

IMO the Chinese are taking over Thailand without firing a shot. Northern Myanmar is already theirs.

Maybe less poverty, maybe homelessness will be solved.

But also maybe middle class will decline?

Maybe price of goods and services will decline due to AI?

The future financial picture is hard to predict what it will look like.

And maybe it won't ...then what ?

As usual ...no answer right

Yeah, that was positive!

China's alliance with TH is a good thing, and benefits both countries.

Hopefully CN will keep TH on it's toes, especially with chems in foods, as they continue to reject food from TH, as having over use of chems 👍

Looking at the current trajectory of global events, where do you think the world will be five years from now?

• Will we see more war or less?

• More poverty or greater prosperity?

• Will environmental challenges worsen, or will we make progress in fixing them?

• Will human rights and equality improve, or will they decline?

• Will people be healthier due to better awareness of health and technology, or will poor diet and lifestyle choices continue to take a toll?

• Will AI become a true game-changer, or will it simply evolve into a more advanced and user-friendly search tool?

• And for Gen Z, will they find themselves in a better world or a more challenging one?

I try to stay positive in my outlook, even if the future for the world doesn’t seem so bright. Things may look bleak, but they always can change. At least the sun will still rise every morning, until the day it doesn’t, and by then, we’ll all be gone.

What are your thoughts?

I'll probably be dead

Humanity already has the means and resources to eliminate poverty, starvation, and homelessness on a global scale. However, it requires the resolve to do so, and at this point, that determination seems absent, as inequality continues to grow. I wish it weren't the case.

Humanity already has the means and resources to eliminate poverty, starvation, and homelessness on a global scale, but there are a class of people who want everything for themselves and nothing for everyone else - so?  You have massive inequalities in the distribution of resources. With money comes power, with power comes massive man-made discrepancies in well-being.  Every human on this planet could live a good life, but a minuscule number of psychopaths devoid of empathy only want a system of Masters and Slaves. So we have a system of Masters and Slaves, Rulers and Serf, Elites and Commoners.  Doesn't need to be that way, but human greed drives these divisions.

And, that also means that stronger countries want what weaker countries have and will kill to obtain it.  It's too bad but too large of a percentage of the human race are little more than genocidal monkeys who harbor a bottomless pit of greed.  We're not all that way, but too many are to ever change the paradigm.  Unfortunately it's the nature of this reality. So eventually?

"We want it all and if we can't have it all!!!"  No more genocidal monkeys.

Robotics etc won't matter much outside west where labor is cheap. Inside the US and Europe who will clean the cars for next people after the former has shot drugs  had sex, barfed in the cars? Ironically, they'd work here but unnecessary. Can go across BKK for b225 on Friday afternoon.

Same with drones. I see crazy people damaging drones and stealing goods. They'll need to solve the crazy human element first ironically

This is absolutely true and while in US most fingers point to Democrats, Republicans are guilty as well not only of the theft and graft, but turning a blind eye. F ing uniparty.

Correct. The massive wealth inequality in the world is underpinned by this chart: While just above one percent of the world's population had fortunes of more than one million U.S. dollars in 2022, more than half of the global population had a total wealth of less than 10,000 U.S. dollars.

648 million people in the world, about eight percent of the global population, live in extreme poverty, which means they subsist on less than US$2.15 per day.

Almost a quarter of the global population, 23 percent, lived below the US$3.65 poverty line, and almost half, 47 percent, lived below the US$6.85 poverty line, as reported in the 2022 Poverty and Shared Prosperity report. This also means that the global median income (US$7.60 per person per day) is very close to the UMIC line.

Global inequality is growing, with half the world’s wealth now in the hands of just 1% of the population, according to a new report.

The report shows that a person needs only $3,210 (£2,100) to be in the wealthiest 50% of world citizens. About $68,800 secures a place in the top 10%, while the top 1% have more than $759,900. The report defines wealth as the value of assets including property and stock market investments, but excludes debt.

About 3.4 bn people – just over 70% of the global adult population – have wealth of less than $10,000. A further 1bn – a fifth of the world’s population – are in the $10,000-$100,000 range.

Each of the remaining 383m adults – 8% of the population – has wealth of more than $100,000. This number includes about 34m US dollar millionaires. About 123,800 individuals of these have more than $50m, and nearly 45,000 have more than $100m. The UK has the third-highest number of these “ultra-high net worth” individuals.

The Credit Suisse survey calculates that there are now 2.4 million dollar millionaires in the UK , up 68,000 on a year earlier. In the US the number of millionaires is now more than 15m – up 903,000.
