British Man Arrested in Thailand After 25-Year Visa Overstay

I don’t see why renewing his U.K. passport whilst in overstay is a big deal. The UK authorities don’t ask for evidence of his ability to stay in Thailand before renewing it. So they would just renew it, as they would for any British citizen.

I can see the point of routinely checking for criminal convictions in the UK, but let’s face it, the guy has been in Thailand for 25 years so recent UK criminality is unlikely.

more than likely he is someone who has just led a quiet life in Thailand without bothering anyone and so never needed to be bothered by officialdom

Except non payment of visa fees. The visa system is the issue.

If the 90Day and TM30 reporting systems are effective how did this happen?

It only covers  people who abide by it.

If they don't show up, no way they can find them out; certainly won't lead to any door knockings by the cops,  without any common crime involvements.

Looks like no real links between TM6(arrival card(with proposed address filled in) and TM30.

Or they are simply too lazy to cross-refer these records.

90 day report and TM30.

Their real aim is mostly to create an excuse for imposing fine on those who failed to comply with.

More requirements, there could be more people who can't(don't) abide by.

Neither applicable to this Brit criminal.

He certainly "Violated" immigration rules.

But he (allegedly) committed no other Crimes(victimizing anyone else).

If he is otherwise innocent, bit too much to call him "Criminal", to my sense though.

Better wait for further development; if he isn't guilty for any other illicit acts.

I felt exactly the same way  as you did.

By law, he is an Immigration Offender.

But Not a Criminal; as long as he didn't do anything that victimized  anyone innocent.

All the more proof if it were ever needed that they should both be scrapped.

They didn't exist in 2000

Well you didn't state a country, so no it does not qualify for longest overstay

My hero. Smartest Brit ever.

What's smart about getting caught and never allowed back here?

Well, obviously you do not meet the mainstream here🤣. (As me)

Many or most members hail this law breaker and admire this criminal.

To return back to UK might be punishment enough.

However he might get a pension upgrade. Unfrozen then.🤗

Anyone breaking the law or agreeing with criminals should not be here

We don't know, he could be a serial drug pusher or pedophile, all we know is that he's criminally an illegal immigrant, which is nothing to support or to be proud about.

Wow! This guy's been in Thailand about the same time as I have!!!

Except he is a lot smarter and saved on visa fees.

Yeah, he's so smart and has saved so much money that he's now arrested. I assume he'll spend some time in jail and then be deported back to the UK, where he might be subject to additional penalties, such as losing his passport or even worse.
