"The State Pension is an existing welfare benefit that forms part of the United Kingdom Government's pension arrangements. Benefits vary depending on the age of the individual and their contribution record. Currently anyone can make a claim, provided they have a minimum number of qualifying years of contributions."
It IS a benefit, just based on NI qualifying years. In fact that doesn’t even have to be financial contributions. If unemployed and claiming benefits / signed off sick your NI contribution is made for you .

The 20k overstay maximum fine is less than what he would have paid for 25 years visa extensions. He’s £ quids in !

That might be right, except he won't be resident in Thailand any more and banned for probably 10 years, therefore he's lost out even though he saved £££.

By "state benefits" I was referring to state social security benefits which are not payable to those outside the UK.   Try to keep up with what I'm posting.

your credibility has just skipped out the Suk bar window you are sat in, the UK state pension has been legally classed as a state benefit for some time.

You think that private pensions can be accessed at any age?

Expand

In some circumstances such as disability...yes they can👍

Expand

Yes, but not in normal circumstances which is what is being discussed.  No point in confusing things with very low percentage exceptions that do not apply to this thread.

Yes.

Agree.

Just depends on what penalty he must finally pay.

And this, is still a known unknown.

No, never been there so won't be posting about IDC life.   I could tell you about life in Lumpini police jail, Thong Lo police cells, CSD cells and Klong Prem, though.    But I won't.

I don't think so, Thailand is not a good enough country now to attract enough westerners to come here.

The many many people applying for five year visa around the World suggest otherwise . Seems to be ,many many people wanting to come and live in Thailand , FB pages are full of people asking how to apply for the new DTV five year visas

Immigration officials expressed disbelief at the extent of his overstay. "This is one of the longest visa overstays we’ve ever encountered," they noted.

I'd love to know if his Passports had any of those "under the counter" extension stamps in them, or did he just not even bother ?

Guess I'll never know.

Can someone in this situation avoid deportation if they hired a lawyer and paid before being caught? I am wondering if a lawyer could prevent deportation and take care of visa issues, because I have seen advertising for visa overstays on lawyers' sites and office buildings.

I was simply replying to your statement about accessing private pensions at any time, which I replied yes they can.. 👍 and this thread is nothing to do with pensions, it's about overstay 😁

What did he claim?

When Big Joke was immigration chief, he famously (foolishly) claimed that he will arrest ALL overstayers within six months.

And yet, they are still finding overstayers who have been here before, during and after Big Joke's crackdown. A certain amount of schadenfreude considering his own fate is in order, I think.
