Seventeen-Year-Old Stabs Uncle to Death in Uthai Thani
Picture of arrest. In a shocking incident on 25 February, in Uthai Thani, a 17-year-old boy, referred to only as “A” has been arrested after allegedly stabbing his 49-year-old uncle, Mr. Banjong, to death. The attack, which occurred at a home in the Namuap sub-district of Lansak district, has left the local community in shock. According to witnesses, the incident unfolded while the victim was sitting outside, enjoying a soft drink. Eyewitness reports indicate that A approached the victim after hearing him cough and shouted a vulgar insult. The victim responded defensively, asking what A’s issue was, which led to a confrontation. As tensions escalated, Mr. Banjong attempted to retreat to the kitchen to grab a knife for self-defense, as his son was cooking nearby. However, A allegedly seized the opportunity to attack, using a folding knife to stab his uncle multiple times in the back of the neck, causing severe bleeding. He then reportedly stomped on the victim repeatedly. Despite efforts from Mr. Banjong’s family to rush him to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter. Upon the arrival of law enforcement, A was found hiding in the bathroom and reportedly took around 30 minutes to emerge before being taken into custody. Authorities confirmed that A had a history of violent behaviour, including a previous stabbing incident in the village, which had instilled fear among residents. Mr. Banjong’s wife, Mrs. Daorueng, expressed her anguish and called for justice, urging A’s parents to take responsibility for their son’s actions and to support the victim’s family financially during this difficult time. She highlighted the ongoing issues with A’s behaviour, noting his habit of drinking kratom and his propensity for violence when under the influence, which has made the community wary of him. Mrs. Daorueng pleaded for authorities to take this case seriously and ensure that A is held accountable for his actions to prevent further tragedies in the community. -- 2025-02-26 -
