Poor sanitation and bugs and no electricity ,and thieves

Really, I'd prefer to read something more positive. But thanks.

Difficult to insulate and will waste electricity on Air Conditioning.

Also, very noisy.

You will hear every plane flying overhead.

Roosters will become bothersome.

Why not just attach bamboo to some existing concrete structure?

Bamboo would be good if in a cool and smoke-free environment, with low human population.

It's all in the thought process at the moment, but it most likely to take place since we both like the idea.

Your thoughts. Budget is around up to 6 grand. USD. Location should be about 3 hours NE of Bangkok. My partner will buy the land. What should I be aware of.  Thanks. I don't currently live there, but maintain living quarters in Bangkok. This will be only like a weekend get away from Bangkok.

Thanks

Authentic vintage sanitation, unlimited opportunities to study entomology any time of day,  sometimes electricity, and neighbors with benefits.

Bamboo has quite a short life. There are many prefabricated timber frame small dwellings available throughout Thailand that would suit your purpose and would last a lot longer.

Actually, that is more my thinking.

Cement, steel roof struts, standard roofing, sliding glass windows.  Bedroom, bath, small kitchenette.  You can do that for 200k THB. Our guest house is just about like that.

Bamboo will fade and fall apart within a year

If treated, and well built can last 20 years, there are many huge hotels and structures built around the world that totally disprove your “ expert “ comment!

See a lot of bamboo bungalows build for resorts up here is northern Nan province. They seem to last about the same length of time it takes for most of the resorts to close for lack of financial viability....18 months.

Oh dear ! Not sure what your comment has to do with bamboo bungalows. Anyway, in my case I am an 83 year old farang, happily married to my lovely Thai wife for 40 years, and enjoying being retired in Thailand every bit as much as when I first visited in 1962.

Bugs love to live in bamboo.

The older it gets, the more bugs living inside the bamboo.

Much better, in this climate, to build using teak wood.

But, as the locals know, the wood houses you see around here are extremely HOT.

They don't like them.

Why not build, instead, RAMMED EARTH using local mud and clay?

As in:

This is what I would do.

Plenty of cheap labor around these parts.

Note:  This is a great video, but the problem is that the builder's head keeps getting in the way of the building process. At least, this guy speaks passable Thai, it seems...Also, good sense of humor. This is the kind of Tourist most needed in Thailand.  Good quality Tourist. And, smart enough to build RAMMED EARTH DWELLING, too!!!!
