A 49-year-old man from Chonburi is in a critical condition after stabbing himself in the neck with a kitchen knife following an argument with his wife about eating before drinking.

At approximately 14.30 on 2 March, police from Mueang Chonburi Police Station received a report of a self-inflicted stabbing incident at a house in Ban Suan Subdistrict, Mueang Chonburi District. Emergency responders from the Thammarassamee Maneerat Foundation were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, rescue personnel found Mr Prayoon, 49, unconscious and lying on the floor. A 15cm-long kitchen knife was discovered beside him. Medics provided emergency first aid before rushing him to Chonburi Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

According to the victim’s wife, her husband was preparing to go out drinking with friends when she suggested he eat first, as she had just finished cooking. She explained that she was concerned for his well-being, but her husband became upset and frustrated, saying he wanted to die simply because he was being asked to eat first. He then reportedly took a sharp knife from the kitchen and stabbed himself in the neck in an apparent act of distress.

The police have confirmed that they will conduct a further investigation once the man’s condition stabilises to determine the cause of the incident and whether any legal action is required.
