Thai police are investigating the discovery of a corpse covered with a fertiliser sack and plastic bags in a wooded area near a highway.

Authorities in Huai Yai, have launched an investigation after a decomposed body was found dumped in a forested area off Highway 331 (Sattahip – Chachoengsao). The remains were covered with a fertiliser sack and plastic bags, and police have yet to confirm the victim’s gender.

On 4 March, Police Lieutenant Nevin Suntavanik, an investigator from Huai Yai Police Station, was notified about the body near kilometre marker 25+400 in Pong subdistrict, Bang Lamung district. Officers, along with forensic investigators and rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation, were immediately dispatched to the scene.

The body was located approximately 50 metres from the main road, inside a grove of acacia trees. It was in an advanced state of decomposition, suggesting the victim had been dead for several days. Nearby, police also found a pile of discarded electrical wire casings, with the copper stripped away, raising suspicions that the area might have been used for illegal wire scrapping.

Police cordoned off the area and called in Chonburi Forensic Police Division 2 to assist with the investigation.

A cassava farm owner, who first discovered the body, has been taken in for questioning at Huai Yai Police Station as part of the inquiry. Investigators are now working to determine the victim’s identity and cause of death.
