Fact and fiction, right and wrong, consequence and reality, the things most humans hold dear and apply to various aspects of everyday life all become irrelevant in the face of their unwavering allegiance. Even when his policies drive up inflation, increase unemployment, weaken consumer protections, dismantle government oversight, harm allies, weaken political alliances around the world, or threaten economic stability, his base remains steadfast. Their loyalty is impervious to evidence, detached from rational self-interest, and more akin to prostrating themselves to a supernatural faith than what is viewed as a normal level of political support for a public servant. What drives this kind of devotion? Is it ideological? Psychological? Or is it simply the human tendency to seek certainty in an unstable world, even at the cost of not believing in truth itself?

 

Such blind allegiance is not without historical precedent. The fervor surrounding authoritarian figures of the past, from the early days of the Nazi regime to the rise of countless demagogues, all followed similar patterns, merely an elevation of a flawed mortal into a near-mythic figure, beyond reproach and beyond reason. What makes this phenomenon particularly perplexing is that this is all unfolding in an era of unprecedented access to information, where deception should, in theory, be more easily recognized and exposed. All of those things resonate with the forlorn, and when a single figure is the source of all the ego salving, then everything that entity does or says is infallible. In religion, we have the supposed bad guy Satan, the one who tempts you to lie or cheat, and he is the epitome of all evil. The good guy, on the other hand, is supposedly omnipotent, which means it is responsible for tsunamis and childhood cancer and all sorts of horrors....but that entity's cult claims "Master Plan" or "works in mysterious ways". When it comes to evil, Satan is a mere posseur.

 

So with the President, we have a guy who----as an example---stole highly classified documents, claimed he declassified them with his mind, but also claimed the FBI planted them. MAGAs believed all of it, despite the contradictions. He sent his goobers to hang the Vice President, but when they got arrested and convicted, he called their attack a lovefest, the terrorists "hostages", and he pardoned the scum. When he mouths off with his increasing insanity, saying things that either make no sense or are wildly contradictory, the cult parses it as if it has the "hidden meaning" of a Nostradamus quatrain or a message from "Q" of QAnon fame.

 

Just yesterday he did what is now the norm for him: take both sides of the same issue.

 

Russia carried out a massive drone attack on Ukraine. The clown's first comment was, "I don't blame him. He wants peace". (Now how idiotic is that. Putin started the war and is welcome to go home anytime, so clearly he doesn't want peace; he wants Ukraine.) Perhaps seeing his dream of a Nobel Peace Prize disappearing as the war heats up, POTUS then condemned the attack and spoke about new sanctions.

It seems that most Trump supporters on this forum are either not American and or don’t live in the U.S. As a result, they have no real skin in the game, since none of his destructive policies will affect them or will be felt by them personally. But in America, where people are already starting to feel the pain directly, the tide is now turning.

Currently, 47.9% of Americans disapprove, while 47.6% approve. Only slightly in negative territory, but enough to tip the balance into a situation that is historically irrecoverable.
 

By comparison, during his first term, his net approval turned negative within 15 days into his presidency, and he never recovered from it. This time, it took closer to 45 days. Perhaps his supporters were more hopeful this time around, but rising costs and economic concerns seem to be driving this new shift already. Additionally, many Americans are unhappy with his handling of Ukraine, and there is even some dissent within his own constituency on the matter.

 

Historically, once a president’s national approval ratings turn negative, they almost never recover. The only modern exception was George W. Bush, whose approval rebounded after 9/11. Without that rally around the flag effect, he likely wouldn’t have won a second term.

 

This evolving situation now suggests that a shift is already developing within Trump's cult following in America, where he has already lost a portion of his support base and, based on history, it will only continue to crater further from here.

The last 7 polls prior to election by Rasmussen gave him a 1 to 3 point lead. He won by 1.5 points so they were amongst the most ACCURATE polls.

I really can't see the sense of alienating allies with tariffs, and wrecking your own economy with them as well.

 

Already, Kentucky bourbon makers have lost $1 billion in sales to Canada. Converting allies to someone who wants to punch you in the mouth is insane.

 

The DOGE scythe is cutting down Republicans along with Democrats. There is nothing selective about it.
