Thai Police Arrest German Pedophile Linked to Child Porn Network

Hard to say if he himself is a pedophile or if he was just marketing to make money. The marketing is much more evil in my opinion because a pedophile cannot help his compulsions, it's like they're hard wired to do it. The marketing is by choice. I imagine that he'll get a near life sentence in Thailand, I don't know what Germany does. If he committed his crimes while in Thailand then it would be up to Thailand courts. If he goes to jail here I imagine the inmates will serve up their own justice.

It is not proven whether he is pedophile, but it can be assumed. What is certain is that he acts with child pornography. And that too is punished hard in Germany.

Germany has strict laws against the spread of child pornography. He would get a tough punishment in Germany and spend several years in prison. His 'subscribers' would also be found and their data would also be passed on to foreign law enforcement authorities.

However, one thing is certain: in Germany the stay in a prison would be much more pleasant than in Thailand.

I was going to say "Well done" to the Thai police for catching this scumbag. Actually, yes, well done, but as you read into the story it came about not because of the hard work by the RTP, but because of a tip off from an American agency.

Probably doing research for a book he was about write, like that dirty b+st+rd Pete Townsend from The Who. 😡🤬

Several of Townshend's essays have been posted online, including "Meher Baba—The Silent Master: My Own Silence" in 2001, and "A Different Bomb", an indictment of the child pornography industry, the following year."

And:- " Townshend – who is the founder of sexual abuse charity Double O – said he paid a £7 charge to a child pornography site, which he cancelled straight away, to expose the financial chain of child abuse from Russian orphanages. When police discovered the files, he was cautioned and placed on the sex offenders register for five years after he admitted to breaking the law."

It would seem that as he has written books on the subject, formed a charity which seems to do nothing but good, (Check it on Google) that at worst, he made a stupid decision, but is not in the same league as the guy who is the subject of this case.

So Germany doesn't have laws covering their own citizens engaging in paedophilia and human trafficking whilst overseas? I know we do here in Australia.

The 'developed world' has its own mysterious ways and means...

Legal issues

[edit]
Main article: Operation Ore

Townshend accepted a caution from the Metropolitan Police (the Met) as part of Operation Ore, a major investigation on child sexual abuse images conducted in 2002–2003. The Met stated that "it was established that Mr Townshend was not in possession of any downloaded child abuse images". Townshend was on a sex offenders register for five years, beginning in 2003, after admitting he had used his credit card to access a child sexual abuse images website.[151][152] Townshend said he accessed the images as research in a campaign against child sexual abuse[153]—specifically, to prove that British banks were complicit in channelling the profits from paedophile rings.[154] Authorities could not prove that the website accessed by Townshend involved children, and no incriminating evidence was found on his personal computer.[155]

Pedophiles are the worst of humanity and should all be executed. Personally my BIL abused my niece and nephew from and early age in the UK. When it came out my sister their mother killed herself, followed by her son my nephew a few years later after suffering mental illness. The girl has never been right in the head following it either. He got away with it, although was arrested, not enough evidence back then in the 90's. Guess where the pervert lives now after my other sister died who he was married to- here in Thailand. My niece was about 8 when he started raping her.

Yes, it does.  All Western countries claim extraterritoriality when it comes to ch*ld p*rn and ch*ld pr*stitution.  But as others have written, the laws tend to be lenient in Germany.  In the U.S., the guy would get a minimum of 40 years and probably life.

If this guy is found guilty, he should get the death penalty. There are few things worse than preying on children, and destroying their potential for a decent future. Some wounds never heal.

A significant arrest was made in Chon Buri's Bang Lamung district, where a German national was detained for allegedly running an illegal dark web platform distributing child pornography. The operation, executed on March 5, was a collaborative effort between Thailand's Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) and US Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

Acting on a Criminal Court arrest warrant issued on March 3, authorities raided the residence of the 54-year-old, identified only as Steffen, a retired programmer from Germany. The investigation initially began after a tip-off from HSI, which had been monitoring Steffen's activities on two dark web sites reportedly used to distribute child pornography over the last three years.

Payments for access to this illicit content were made using cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin and Monero, with transactions funneled through digital wallets before being converted to other currencies and transferred into Steffen's Thai bank accounts.

During the raid, officers confiscated numerous electronic devices, including a laptop, a server computer, and a mobile phone, alongside a storage device containing over 140,000 pornographic files. Additional items seized included bank records, credit cards, and multiple SIM cards associated with the operation.

Steffen admitted to managing two dark web sites with over 5,000 child pornography videos, attracting over 10,000 subscribers and generating illegal earnings estimated at 3.5 million baht. He confessed to beginning this illegal activity after retiring and moving to Thailand.

The charges against him include possession, distribution, production, and trade of child pornography for commercial benefit. He faces prosecution under Thai law, with the possibility of extradition to face further charges internationally.

The investigation continues, as authorities work alongside global law enforcement to identify additional suspects and subscribers linked to this illicit network, reported The Thaiger.

I am certainly glad he was caught in Thailand.  I hope Justice is swift.  But there are two things that bother me about this story.  The first is where did the money go?  He has been operating the site for multiple years and has 10,000 subscribers so to only have 3.5 million baht is chump change.  The second thing that bothers me is the Thai authorities handing over the list of subscribers to different worldwide Police Services. I hope they get guarantees that the press releases announcing arrests from these names should always feature the Thai police and make plain that Thailand is not a place for this sort of illegal activity.  We farang who are here on retirement visas are here here enjoying the Thai hospitality and trying to obey the laws and customs.  We don't want our reputation spoiled by this any more than do the Thai people.

There have been several stories involving Thai police and pedophiles in the last few weeks. I hope this represents a serious, ongoing crackdown on this sort of despicable behavior.

A lot of people make bad comments about the Thai police but I hope they will notice that the Thai police have cracked down on the scammers operating in Cambodia and Myanmar and now seem to be taking aggressive actions on pedophile rings.  I am proud of them.

The fact that this scumbag had 10,000 subscribers says a lot about what a <deleted> up society we live in. Go after the subscribers too. Burn them all alive! There is no place among humans or animals for these pieces of fkn trash

Agreed. It does paint a horrific picture of society. This monster is probably the tip of the iceberg. Makes you wonder what degenerate scum are walking among us unnoticed..
