Picture of arrest.

A 43-year-old man has been arrested in Nakhon Ratchasima after allegedly dousing his ex-wife with petrol and setting her on fire when she refused to reconcile with him. The victim, a 40-year-old street vendor, suffered severe burns covering more than 70% of her body and remains in critical condition.

Police apprehended the suspect, Mr. Chanasorn, outside a house in Sarai Subdistrict, Chum Phuang District. The arrest was carried out under an arrest warrant issued by Roi Et Provincial Court for attempted murder. When officers found him, he was reportedly highly intoxicated, crying uncontrollably, and unable to provide a coherent statement.

According to police reports, the suspect had previously been in a relationship with Ms. Kanya but was unemployed and refused to contribute financially. After enduring threats and intimidation, she ended the relationship.

Despite their separation, Mr. Chanasorn repeatedly attempted to reconcile, but Ms. Kanya firmly rejected him. On 12 March, he confronted her again, and when she refused his advances, he allegedly poured petrol over her and set her alight. Witnesses alerted emergency services, and she was rushed to hospital with life-threatening burns.

Given the brutality of the crime, police launched an urgent manhunt and traced the suspect to Chum Phuang District, Nakhon Ratchasima. Upon arrest, he was too intoxicated to answer questions and was immediately transferred to Phon Thong Police Station in Roi Et for further interrogation.

Authorities have confirmed that he will face prosecution under the law, with police vowing to ensure justice for the victim.
