The Balinese Day of Silence, Nyepi is the most sacred festival for Balinese Hindus when all residents and visitors, regardless of their faith, are expected to honor the tradition...

For 24 hours, the island will come to a complete standstill—no lights, music, or noise will be permitted, transportation will be halted, and everyone must remain indoors.

During Nyepi in Bali, exceptions are made for medical emergencies. While the island is essentially shut down, hospitals remain operational, and ambulances are allowed to move in life-threatening situations.

Here’s how emergencies are handled:

Hospitals Stay Open – Medical staff remain on duty to handle urgent cases.

Emergency Vehicles Allowed – While all other transportation stops, ambulances and police vehicles can operate if necessary.

Contacting Help – Since phone and internet services still function, people can call for medical assistance.

Village Security (Pecalang) Assists – The traditional Balinese security force, Pecalang, patrols the streets to enforce silence but also helps in emergencies by coordinating with authorities.

Interesting.
