Chiang Mai Air Quality Ranked Worst Globally Amid Regional Fires

Chiang Mai has been ranked as having the worst air quality in the world due to widespread agricultural and forest burning in Myanmar and Laos. While Thailand has reduced its hot spots, Myanmar recorded over 1,000, worsening pollution in northern provinces. PM2.5 levels in Chiang Mai and surrounding areas have reached hazardous levels, prompting health warnings. The Thai government is urged to address cross-border pollution to improve air quality. Meanwhile, central, eastern, and southern Thailand report safe air levels. Chiang Mai’s AQI currently stands at 168, the highest globally, with residents advised to limit outdoor exposure.
