A chilling incident unfolded yesterday in Chon Buri’s Phanat Nikhom district as a trailer truck driver, Somchit, was shot in the arm while driving. The shocking event was reported at around 4pm near the Pho Tak intersection in Namatuem subdistrict, leaving the local community in disbelief.

Somchit, a 50-year-old from Buriram, was transported to Phanat Nikhom hospital after being found with a gunshot wound to his right shoulder in his white and blue Isuzu truck, which was riddled with bullet holes. He relayed to police that he was on his delivery route from Bo Win when a trailer truck aggressively cut him off at Mab Pu intersection in the Khlong Kio area. As the other vehicle slowed down, Somchit observed a firearm being pointed at him before shots rang out.

Fortunately, his colleague Ek, who was travelling the same route, realised something was amiss only after reading a message in a LINE chat regarding the shooting. Ek pursued Somchit for more than 20 kilometres across two districts before the wounded driver halted at Phanat Nikhom to get assistance.

Authorities are collaborating with local officials to scrutinise CCTV footage, which is expected to be crucial in identifying the suspect and facilitating further investigation. As the search intensifies, the community remains on edge, hoping for a swift resolution to this unsettling episode, reported The Thaiger.
