The key issue is whether you're telling SS that you live abroad or not. If you live abroad and you dont report that which is required to do you won't need to do the proof of life form. You  could also sign up for zip code based Medicare Advantage which can be used for emergency Medicare care abroad. Based on fraud. I would be shocked it Doge doesn't get to this issue. It's perfect for them. Being an expat isn't maga.

It was mostly Medicare and Medicaid  fraud. Taxpayers are losing more than $100 billion a year to Medicare and Medicaid fraud, according to estimates from the National Health Care Anti-Fraud Association.  It comes from companies who  invoice for undelivered goods and services, physicians charging  for nonexistant services, patients scamming the system for drugs which are resold for profit, pharmaceutical wholesalers and distributors  overcharging, and hospital systems over charging.

 

It was a fraud that was a direct result of neglect. The Inspector General was only allowed 450 inspectors to oversee $1.6+ Trillion in spending on 150 million beneficiaries. There were an inadequate number of inspectors. People convicted of fraud rarely went to jail and the crimes were rife with repeat offenders.

 

The solution from Doge was to fire the inspector general and to lay off  inspectors. How then do they intend to stop the fraud?

Similar for Australians,  you have to be physically in Australia on the day you apply (proven instantly by online 24/7 access to passport arrivals/departures data) but application can be lodge by mail.

 

also:

1). Applicant has to initially visit an office of that gov't agency to obtain a CRN (Client Reference Number).

2). Applicant has to personally visit the same agency office and officially prove their identity.

Isn't SSA committing fraud by purposely making it difficult, and in some cases impossible, to apply for benefits?  This obstruction hasn't been around for decades.

If this administration was serious about reducing the national debt they would be closing all the loopholes in the tax code.  It is a fallacy that tax cuts lead to increased revenues.

I no expert either.  But why is it necessary to punish recipients in order to curb fraud by illegals?  Surely there must be a better way.

To the query above, have I ever had my data compromised -- No. But my SocSec number has been hacked even going back to the 2017 Equifax data breach.

Also, on my US Skype number I got a 3 AM call that told me my finances have been compromised and I gave my SS number before I could wake up. Scam however they were really only after a chump to buy a gift card to engage a 'fixer'.

However, I have never had credit agency reports of anyone creating new accounts or otherwise fraudulently using my data.

What proof do you have that the system was vulnerable?  Hackers have breached some of the most sophisticated websites.  No one's information is completely secure.  AI will only make the situation worse.

I believe in  MAGA, get my SS deposited into a US bank and have access to my account via the net. I dont know many MAGA loving expats who have problems.

They're stealing SS numbers so that they can work. And they can't claim benefits. Which means that the system actually profits from their improper use.

So far so good except for the law suits

against thrid parties entrusted with the database of Millions during the Biden administration! How can somebody trust  anything involving accountability with so many phishing schemes out there.

This information thats been compromised ( The National Public Data Base Breach is a few days shy of 

being 1 years old.And there’s other breaches.

 

Fortunately I subscribed to a free service that monitors my personal information, otherwise I probably wouldn’t of known my  Social Security number , addresss,name was on the dark web for fraudsters to use at their whim. That all being said I have payed to protect my self  further and have taken the recommendations of experts and hoping bad actors don’t compromise my financial or personal status.

 

A recent DOGE INTERVIEW confirmed

that  social security  numbers are being used by fraudsters to divert payments to other banks.

 

 According to a Identity protection service, By some reports, 69% of all data breaches last year included SSNs [*]. The April 2024 AT&T breach alone leaked over 70 million Social Security numbers to the Dark Web [*].

 the best thing you can do is to proactively lock down your identity and accounts and be prepared for the worst.
