Has anybody been getting a tax clearance certificate when they travel outside Thailand? Evidently we need to show it every time we leave the country. Here’s the website explaining it.

No, it isn't required and it isn't requested by Immigration.

It was an old regulation, long ago, and a pain in the butt it was too, but it's been dropped and no longer required. They may well bring it back though, the 90 day reporting thing was a dormant regulation when I first came to Thailand in  the late 1970s, and nobody was required to do that, but then it was brought back in again.

Indeed, if tax filings were ever linked to the IMM extension of stay process, I can see this being achieved through tax clearance certificates.

Thank you. That’s what I thought, but a friend seems to think it’s been brought back. He’s going to apply for one before leaving the country in April.

I would think that if it were brought back, it would be a prominent topic in the news. Otherwise folks wouldn’t be aware of requirement and would then have a nasty surprise at the airport, being unable to leave without it.

Do you know what made your friend think that?

It has been discussed on here in various tax threads quite a few times including the link you posted but the discussion always ends with it not being generally operational at the moment.

He remembered the regulation from when he was here back in the 90’s, and then recently he stumbled upon this website below, which is basically a law firm. I’m not sure why he thinks the requirement has been brought back, based only on this website.

People can be their own worst enemy........

Why didn't he do some more research.......it has been mentioned all over these threads but people like him are making it a potential self fulfilling prophecy......

Absolutely no chance they would ever bring this back (if it ever existed at all) you are telling me they are going to audit every foreigner that wants to leave the country?

They don't even stop murderers leaving!

Right while it makes perfect sense to activate this in 2025 again with all new technologies as well their tax plans. It's like waking up a sleeping bear that website page. This topic should be deleted lol. You also forget that 95% never stays longer than 90 days so this is not that hard to do as it would pay.

I agree! If it starts to become a requirement, we know who to blame…😂
