Food Delivery Change?

Featured Replies

The driver called my number 10 times or more.  I didn't answer and it finally stopped.  I got an email from the delivery service showing charges.  They will NEVER collect.  If that means I never use that service again, so be it.

Now he's got your number and he knows where you live.  Thais hold grudges for a very long time.  Watch your back.  And if you go back on your word and order delivery again always check the order for evidence of tampering.

Has anyone else noticed a change in the food delivery protocols?

It used to be that if you ordered food for delivery, they would first look for a driver and then, once a driver was located, they would put your order into the kitchen.  Not anymore, or so it would seem.

That was the process for a food order via Grab for me last night.   Prior to that they "sent the order to the kitchen" and then looked for a driver.

Well, that seems to have changed.  Now, they cook your food and hope that they can find a driver.  What would they do if they couldn't?  Make the customer wait until next week?

No, they cancel the order and don't charge you.

I assume it's not the driver that pays anything

I believe that your assumption is wrong if you opted to pay cash.

What if it takes five hours to find a driver?

They cancel your order well before that!

The entree, PLUS two Heineken beers, plus tip, was still less than the food delivery I ordered.

...was less than the amount you screwed the delivery driver for.

When?  Where do they draw the line? After the food has been sitting around for 45 minutes?  After an hour? After two hours?  It's totally up to them if they do or not?

Anyway, once they put your order in the kitchen, the app has no way for the customer to cancel.  That doesn't seem right. Customers want hot food. Or is that unreasonable?

I usually don't complain about little stuff, like the time someone delivered a pizza with the pizza held vertically.  It looked like a squished up mess when I opened the box.  Or the time they delivered the wrong food.  Or the time they left out items I was being charged for.  But this latest incident is definitely not OK with me.

It was certainly not my intention to cheat the driver.  And if that's the case, I'll see he gets his money.   It's no big deal, but unless things change, it's the last time I use that service.  When I order something, I want it delivered in a reasonable amount of time, preferably not cold from sitting around while they "look for a driver" for some indeterminate amount of time.

No quite right.  They all want hot food, but somehow you think you should be able to get hot freshly cooked food delivered in an instant.

You don't even get that in most restaraunts with most food orders.

Even a freshly boiled hard egg takes about 10 minutes.

I guess I should just ask the moderators to delete this entire topic and all my posts.  My rants aren't doing anyone any good, and I just get mad thinking about it all.

The point is, they don't know if, or when they will find a driver.  They really don't. And yet they cook your for and hope for the best.  For me, I say no.  Go find another sucker.

Bye.

You're way too demanding,

Move to Africa, maybe you'll find something better

Now, they make your food and THEN, they look for a driver. Or, they make your food and hope they find a driver.  Right now, my food was "ready for pickup" 10 minutes ago, and yet they're still looking for a driver, and the estimated delivery time is almost an hour away.  What do I get when I finally get my food? Food that has been sitting around for an hour?

I may have to re-think how I get food delivery.  I don't mind paying for food, but I really don't want food that has been sitting around for an hour.

Maybe I should just refuse delivery and tell them I don't want it?  I'm tempted to do just that.

I use Foodpanda in Bangkok, haven't had any significant problems.

Good service, pretty good time predictions as well.

I have had is some restaurants send me 1.5 liters of regular Coke when I order Coke Zero. Too sweet, I give to security.

I probably eat healthier than you do.  Once in a while, I'll order some food to be delivered.  I have no particular food budget, and I can buy whatever I want whenever I want.   If I wanted to, I could spend 1000 baht a day on food and it wouldn't put a dent in my budget.

You have made yourself look silly throughout the thread. But this comment is prime. Wow you can spend a grand a day on food. For sure you must be living in a pool villa with a Ferrari for a car. 🤣

It's finally on the way, but they won't let me cancel it.  Very convenient, for them.  I'm still deciding. I may just let the driver sit there all day, waiting for me to come down.  Maybe someone will get the message that the current protocols are nonsense.

Don't do that.

Silly, childish idea.

Make the best of it.

Every post here is subject to a lot of nasty criticism.

Don't take it personal.

Also, I would say, don't fight back, it's pointless.

Well unless you fight back for entertainment value, you can have some benefit.

I do not know when they draw the line but my two experiences were after about 30 minutes.  It is ridiculous of you to suggest that it could be five hours and it is irrelevant whether the food has been "sitting around for an hour" if the order is being cancelled, you won't be eating it, anyway.  Perhaps you should ask Grab's call centre/help desk  Grab if you want specifics?

"Customers want hot food. Or is that unreasonable?"

Yes, it is unreasonable to expect to receive hot food bearing in mind the delivery method you requested!  Grab is delivering your order on a bike that is subject to traffic conditions and weather so, unless you're five minutes from the restaurant, there's no way that it could ever be more than warm at best...if you want piping hot food, go get it yourself.  You've got a microwave haven't you?

I've thought about it.  And after the earthquake, I might think about it some more. At this point, my US Driver's License has expired.  So I'd have to get a Thai license.  As for the Ferrari?  I've almost always had sports cars, but I wouldn't pay the price for a Ferrari in Thailand.  The most expensive car I've ever had is a Porsche, and even one of those, in Thailand, wouldn't be worth it, to me.  There seem to be a few Ferraris around here that people in my building own.  A couple of Ferraris, a Lamborghini, some Range Rovers, some expensive Mercedes.  Rich people from Bangkok, I think.  Cars can be a lot of fun, but in Thailand, all I'd do  with one would be to drive to the grocery store.

You seem to be the one who is blind to your own hostility and aggression. Take a few moments to review what you have written.

If ordering food causes you so many issues  - just simply don't do it.  That way you score an instant victory over those who fall to provide the level of service you require.

??? Of course you can’t cancel if the food is already on the way.

We recently had a crazy Grab driver for the first time. Even though the address I gave him was correct, he called and said, “I cancel, I cancel, wrong address.”
Then I described the way to him, and he showed up angry, claiming the address was wrong. I just grinned, paid, and told him he better should work something other. Weird guy.

What surprised me was that I was sure I had given him only one star, but later in the app I saw five stars.

That was an exception though—Grab drivers are usually super friendly. One time I even called a driver and asked him to pick up some beers from 7/11 on the way—no problem at all.

Hostility and aggression?  I don't know.  I don't think I've been unreasonable. It's a simple concept.  You order food and either they have a way to deliver it to you in a timely manner, or they don't.  Why should I be locked into a deal with no way out, while they "look for a driver"?

Before the recent changes, they looked for a driver first.  If they couldn't find one, fine. Then they cancel.  Did you ever hear the phrase "If it's not broken don't fix it"?
