Get a life, no one else has as much trouble as you do

No trouble to do it.

I was simply curious how other people found out they had to do it when they ORIGINALLY came to Thailand on a longer stay visa.

Maybe multiple choice would have been more direct:

1) An immigration official told me

2) It was part of visa application process

3) I heard 2nd hand (internet forum, bloke on a bar stool, agent, etc.)

I found it odd that I had to learn via 3) and not first hand but put it down as TIT per my original comment.

Congratulations on missing the point again. If you’re in your dotage, you have my sympathies. If you’re drunk, maybe your comprehension will be better when sober. 😁

To be pedantic…

Immigration official website Liquorice linked to references non-immigrant visa so not DTV and no reason to assume it applies to DTV holders.

TM47 form itself references tourist or non-imm visa but not DTV.

A DTV is a non-immigrant visa.

A DTV is a special tourist visa, as written in the royal gazette order that created the visa.

After deciding to take retirement and move to Thailand, I simply googled 'Thai Immigration' 6 months before my planned the move which brought up numerous links to Immigration websites, lawyers, the Thai Immigration Act as well as the documents and procedures that I would be expected to follow and the financial requirements to stay long term.

One of the first things I realised, a necessity, was to visit my local Immigration office and file a TM30, without which it wouldn't be possible to submit 90-day reports or apply for extensions of stay.

There's a paragraph on the Arrival Card that informs everyone of the 90 Day Report. It's interesting. The report was initiated during one of the governments that followed the 1976 counter-revolution, but it wasn't enforced for 20 years. Nobody was aware of it. I mean, who actually reads the arrival card? It actually took a couple of years to make it a regular thing.

I know how to use a calendar, I know how to do my own research.  I just find it odd that nothing official if they expect compliance.

How hard is it for:

- the email with the visa to say “If you intend to stay more than 90 days, you have to complete a TM47 with your local immigration office” or words to that affect

OR

- an IO to mention it on entry

OR

- some note in passport

Maybe they don’t want compliance and want to collect fines? 😁

So you believe that IOs should spend more time processing arrivals so that you can be relieved of your responsibilities.

It is up to each individual to check the regulations regarding their own visa status.

It's just another visa that went through the normal procedures to be created (placing an add in the paper)

This visa allows for temporary stays, it doesn't allow or lead to permanent residence, therefore it's still a non-immigrant visa.

And the good news is that the same reminder has returned with the upcoming TDAC....

"2. If the alien stays in the Kingdom longer than 90 days, he/she must notify in writing the nearest Immigration Officer, concerning place of stay, as soon as possible upon expiration of 90 days. And required to do so every 90 days."

Please tell Phuket Provincial Transport Office, then maybe I can get 5 years on the next renewal of my driver's license.

Your post is off topic.

At a guess you are asking why folk with a DTV cannot obtain 5 yr TDL.

DTV is a "special tourist visa"

Most transport offices will only issue 2 yr TDL.

A tourist visa and a non-immigrant visa are not the same thing at all.

I was not asking, I was pointing out that ericthai was wrong when he said that the DTV is a non-immigrant visa. It is, indeed, as you say and as BrandonJT said earlier, a "special tourist visa".

If you struggle with counting to 90, I suggest using an online calculator.

You would be better to use one that was accurate.  In the example shown the 90th day and therefore the one when a report would be due is the 28th of June.  Earliest date would be 14th so they got that right even with the incorrect day 90, so that calculation is wrong too.  Final day is Saturday 5th so the calculation is correct but as Immigration is closed at the weekend it should show Monday the 7th.

Like a lot on the internet, garbage.

1 day in March

30 in April

31 in May

28 in June

Total = 90.

I think most people have missed the point from the OP.

You’re quite right. I already knew the requirement, it was just an off-the-cuff / throwaway comment because despite the army of bureaucrats Thai immigration employ, none communicated their expectations at any stage (application, approval, entry or TM30).

It wasn’t originally intended to troll but I have enjoyed the various posters who were outraged / incredulous that I couldn’t count or do my own research. 😁
