News flash working as a digital nomad is allowed ever since the start it existed... Secondly the 5 year DTV visa is almost existing a year already too... Most of the people working online nowadays all are down south, ever since covid i guess. North etc are deserted.

You've missed my point. How long will it last? Show me somebody who has had a long and steady career as a Youtube influencer/blogger etc..

 

Here's my prediction -- she will:

1) Run out of material for her channel 2) find ever increasing competition from others that see her videos and want to do the exact same thing. 3) will probably not invest the money and even if she did, by some miracle, she was able to bank and invest $3k USD a month for 10 years, that's still not that much money! She will go back to blightly with NO CAREER skills except for "influencer" or Youtube blogger. How does that look on a CV these days.

 

Now, digital nomads that are expert programmers, web front end designers, IT professionals (like myself) who actually make real money have a better chance.

What I have seen happen time and time again are guys who show up as young men (30's). Have stayed for several years on earnings that give them a living here (no way in the west), with a job, like English teacher and stayed for years later to find in their 50's that they have absolutely NO RETIREMENT prospects whatsoever. No pension, no 401k fund, no means of support in old age.

I would like to know if she has a work permit, and also the kind of visa she entered with. If this story is for real then the practical issues of extensions of stay, 90 day reporting, and work permit renewal will all be part of her 'idyllic' life in Thailand, none of which are mentioned in this article. Further updates of how she is getting on would be of interest. Meantime I remain skeptical that she is nothing more than a tourist enjoying her time here for as long as it lasts, like most tourists.

Nasty? We should all learn to do everything ourselves and not make others do our dirty work. Those Thai people could be running a company like CP or Singha Beer, yet this woman is forcing them to take meager pay to do her chores. I recall Henry Ford put all the rivets and bolts himself on his Model Ts, rather than exploit the poor people of Detroit by giving them jobs. If you cannot hire someone for a corner office VP job, then you're just exploiting them. Treat them with dignity and allow them to remain unemployed and hungry. A lesson to us all.

 

It's the same reason I never use taxis. How could I make someone else navigate Thailand's horrific traffic and dangerous roads? That's just blatant exploitation. Always drive myself. I also slaughter my own chickens, rather than make someone else collect bad karma by killing another living thing.

 

If I ever need open heart surgery, for example, I'll study up and do it myself at home, rather than exploit some poor guy who had to suffer through four years of med school, a few years of internship, and a few more of residency. How could I sleep at night if I offered someone work so that they could feed their family!

 

I should just come to Thailand and lord over people with my wealth and not contribute anything to the local economy or local citizens. Let them see how white people do things, like the guy to whom you responded seemingly behaves. Like him, I come here to be an example of greatness and show Thais what the acme of human achievement looks like. I'm not going to employ any of them. Geesh. How could I do that...offer people gainful employment. Just rude!

Assuming this is real, what's the problem? Why the criticism? I don't see her railing against the fat old expats who came and married former bargirls cashiers and now live in Thailand.

 

Not that I would or could do it, but this concept of being an "Influencer" is a new thing, largely a phenomenon peculiar to  Millennials, just as in my generation, the idea of being a hedge fund manager was new, and before me a code writer in COBOL. To each his or her own. Best of luck to her, and may she find the happiness many of us have found.

I wonder when she'll find out that if she marries a Thai guy, she can get citizenship in 3 years and stay the rest of her life unencumbered by visas.  Then she can tell all her female followers, "Come to Thailand, marry a Thai guy, and stay forever!" 
Maybe I've found my own digital nomad niche:  hooking up Brit gals looking for the good life on an island in paradise who want to marry a Thai guy in order to "Stay In Paradise Forever!
