Natural Experiment Links Shingles Vaccine To 20% Reduced Risk of Dementia

Researchers who tracked cases of dementia in Welsh adults have uncovered the strongest evidence yet that the shingles vaccination reduces the risk of developing the devastating brain disease.

Health records of more than 280,000 older adults revealed that those who received a largely discontinued shingles vaccine called Zostavax were 20% less likely to be diagnosed with dementia over the next seven years than those who went without.

 

Pascal Geldsetzer, at Stanford University, said: “For the first time we are able to say much more confidently that the shingles vaccine causes a reduction in dementia risk.

Two shots. Each about 6500, so 13000 total.

That was at a private hospital in Khon Kaen (Ratchaphruek).

Don't know about current availability and prices in Pattaya.

Yes. But makes sense only if your jab was shingrix and within a certain timeframe.

Combining with the older zostavax is probably not useful.

There is a couple of treads from the past back to 2023.

Bangkok Hospital will probably be charging the most of anyone. Still, as I recall, it wasn't cheap. On the other hand, I've known people who have come down with a severe case of shingles. And it pretty much amounts to sustained torture over many days.

I've had shingles , very painful , very weird dreams if I was able to sleep.

Thai gov hospital gave me some meds . Survived it , no vaccine for me, thanks.

I definitely want the anti shingles vaccine. ASAP. And any others I can get. I am 100% PRO vaccine. 100% believe in vaccines.

And regard anti-vaccers as sad, deluded eccentrics who should not be given public platform on forums like this. They are damaging the health of the communities.
