This marks a 4.5% increase compared to the previous year, making it the highest expenditure since 2020.

So smiles all round then, and as expenditure is high during the Songkran week expect less spending at the end of the month when many locals are flat out broke.

Of course it is ! More figures dreamt up by the eternal optimists . Never believe there figures . It’s always bigger better etc which I always doubt for so many reasons .

They are always going to talk it up to get others believing it and spend more... they're certainly not going to say it's going to be a sh#t-show this year.

That's a hell of a lot of baby powder and water guns.

The record breaking numbers of tourists arriving for Songkhran will be charged more for water refills and baby powder with the explanation it is due to recent tariff rises. Local sellers will be rubbing their hands

Not in Chiang Mai.  Tourists simply urinate in the moat and then refill their waterguns from.....the moat.

Do they put a 2.5 filter over the tank fillers of their weapons before filling?

With the possibility of a global recession caused by USA tarrifs resulting in trade wars, the financial success of the 2025 Sonkran festival is so far from my mind. Fortunately for the businesses involved in the Songkran festival they will not be affected from recent events.  Its too soon for the melt down in the stock market and tarrifs to trickle down to the real economy.
