I recently went to Cambodia for 2 weeks and found the people there to be incredibly friendly and welcoming, but also in a natural sense, not a transactional one..

 

Why do you think this is?

I made the same experience there. Certainly more friendly than Thais, Burmese, and, probably, Vietnamese and Laotians as well...

It's because they're poorer. The poorer people are, the friendlier they are.

Even the ladyboys?

They are generally friendly, but a lot of criminals and drug addicts.  Not unlike many places I guess.

That's good to hear and mirrors my own experience in Cambodia. The one exception was the immigration guy at Siem Reap airport whose surly rudeness and indifference was at a comically high level.

I even bought a tuk tuk driver a pack of fags, which cost me an astounding 30 pence. He was so grateful that he almost got on his knees to begin prostrating.. 

 

I told him no need and I would buy him another pack tomorrow. He said he would take me anywhere I wanted, day or night, just give him a call..

That was my experience also.  Everyting has to be locked up and if left on the streets after dark will probably not be there in the morning. Even the places that store your car or bikes will steal them but still better than leaving in the open.  

 

People were nice,  like the Thais 25 years ago, that saw us as superior for better or worse.  Don't want to be alone though off the beaten path.  I found this out the hard way and barely escaped without being robbed.

Extremely  nice and friendly people. They appreciate the fact that you enjoy their country.

What happened to the wedding bob/don? You have been frantically posting since 9am this morning. Looks like over 100 posts. Not much time for the wedding you are attending. Come all the way from Kobe for your mates wedding and blow him off. Not really a nice thing to do. But shows to your character.
