I always thought the penalties for rape were way too severe, how can you square a rapist getting more jail time than a person who killed someone? It's bizarre.

Killers generally get a bigger jail sentence than rapists

In England and Wales you can get life imprisonment for rape. On average, the prison sentence for rape is between 4 and 19 years

Often those who commit manslaughter and murder get a risible prison term. On average the prison sentence for manslaugther in the UK is 2 to 10 years.

The normal jail sentences a for rape is between 4 and 19 years

The normal jail sentence for murder is 15 years to Life .

There will be some rapists who get a longer jail sentence than a murderer , but that's an anomaly and murderers usually get the longer sentence

It does happen, and it surely is something that cannot be justified. How can a rape be worse than taking a life?

It makes no sense.

Some cases could be serial violent rapists getting 19 years in jail and a one punch killer , someone who punched another person once when then died , them getting a 7 year jail sentence

No, he became popular on YouTube, speaking out about COVID,Trump, Ukraine, then the claims surfaced, which supposedly happened 20h yrs ago

Many will remember the notoriety he gained , some 20 years ago for the foul practical "joke" he played on the entirely harmless elderly actor Andrew Sachs - Manuel in Fawlty Towers.

Brand, along with his partner in crime, Jonathan Ross, invited Sachs onto his radio programme; he then regaled Sachs and the listeners with lurid descriptions of his (claimed) sexual exploits with Sachs' much loved granddaughter. It was a foul and extremely cruel thing to do, which left Sachs an utterly broken man. He died not long after.

Not criminal perhaps, certainly deserving of a good kicking, but it is entirely credible that someone who did such an appalling deed could also be capable of a bit of casual rape.

He may well have been baptised in the Thames, I suspect that even the Thames does not have enough water to wash his soul clean!

They were still broadcast - very much in the public domain, and they utterly destroyed Andrew Sachs.

I listened to that, and everything Brand does is always in such poor taste. I didn’t feel the urge to laugh even once, it was just sick, vile, and childish. Honestly, I’m surprised someone hasn’t taken his head off already. That said, I suspect the whole thing was staged, so you can probably put your mind at ease. I highly doubt they actually left that message on Sachs’ answering machine. They could have been sued or even arrested if they had. It seemed like a ridiculous and fake stunt. But it still reveals who he is and how dark his thinking really goes. Who even thinks to call someone, comedy or not, and tell a man, completely unprovoked, that they raped his granddaughter? Where is the humor in that? I have absolutely no empathy for this guy. Regardless of how the current case ends, his image is already trashed, and he is going to pay for it financially, emotionally, and mentally, and I am completely here for it. Just based on what we have all seen and heard publicly, the things we know are fact, he deserves every bit of the backlash and fallout coming his way.

Below are some of the legal problems he could have been facing if he really left that message on the answering machine and it had been reported to the police:

1. Malicious Communications Act 1988

Under this law, it’s an offense to send a message that is grossly offensive, indecent, obscene, or menacing. A voicemail admitting to raping someone, even as a joke, would very likely be considered grossly offensive or threatening. This can carry a sentence of up to two years in prison if prosecuted on indictment.

2. Communications Act 2003, Section 127

This law also covers offensive and threatening messages sent via public communication networks, including phone calls. The standard penalty here is up to six months imprisonment or a fine.

3. Public Nuisance or Harassment

Depending on the circumstances, the person could also be charged with causing public nuisance or harassment, especially if the message caused serious distress to the recipient.

4. False Allegations or Wasting Police Time

If the message leads to a police investigation and it’s discovered the claim was false or a prank, the person could be charged with wasting police time. In serious cases, making a false allegation of rape can lead to charges of perverting the course of justice, which is a serious offense and can result in a prison sentence of several years.

5. Defamation or Civil Liability

The person who left the message might also be sued in civil court for defamation or emotional distress, especially by the person falsely implicated or any affected family member.

This was true, however what you have failed to mention is that this 'innocent grand dauhter' was in a Gothic  band called  'Gothic sluts from hell ' or something similar ,  she danced around in skimpy barely there underwear, posing in  positions, which were batantly sexual.

apparently brand had already slept with her by then and she was a totally willing partner.

The phone cal l was unfortunately answered by sahcs.

It was genuine, it wasn't a stunt .

Both Ross and Grant suffered from a decline in popularity and both their careers slumped .

Had it been a stunt , they would have publicly announced it , just to get  themselves off the hook .

    It was genuine

That's sad. Makes it all the more worse. I used to like Ross sometimes, but after I heard that I place him down at the same level as Brand

I once looked at Brand's show to see what the fuss was about. I found him a terrible comedian and an embarassment.

However, there's no denying that he was magnetic in attracting women, an entertaining conversationlist and never boring.

But as comedy goes, very poor for my taste.

Not sure why women would even find him attractive. His hair and overall look was hideous, his demeanor always crass and tasteless. I assume women who go for that don't have much self respect.

So, the issue isn't with Draconian rape-related sentencing, but overly lenient sentencing for murderers.

Actually that is false, I was listening  that night, it was a Friday night show between 6 & 10pm , most of brands age were out in the pubs getting pissed, i remember the next day there had been 2 complaints, it wasn't until Monday when a tabloid paper ran the story. And then it  blew up

Bit of a false equivalence.

Manslaughter is an unintended killing, there is nothing unintentional about rape.

   Confused .

What bit of my post are you claiming was false ?

There is no connection between your post and my post .

Nothing in your post shows anything of my post to be false

He does look like a Neanderthal, but I can see it, the hairy dark "latin" archetype, not attractive, not pretty, but interesting.

To all intents women were literally throwing themselves at him. Even before he was rich.

It really doesn't matter what her band were called or how she acted on stage , that is besides the point .

It was unacceptable for Brand to call the Grandfather and boast about having sex with the granddaughter .

The phone call is the salient  bit   , the granddaughters behaviour is besides the point

The phone call is not part of the investigation, so its irrelevant, however, with regards the the granddaughter, the media portrayed her as an innocent naïve church goer, when in fact she was a raunchy cavorting singer in a goth rock band.

Move the goal posts as much as you want, thems the facts.
