An EVA Air flight en route from Bangkok to London was forced to make an emergency landing at Suvarnabhumi Airport on April 5, after circling over Thailand’s airspace for several hours. Flight BR67, which had departed at 13:01 from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, experienced an issue that led to a dramatic change in its flight path. According to reports, the plane, which had been flying towards London, was unable to continue on its course due to a problem with its front landing gear. As a precaution, the pilots made the decision to burn fuel in order to reduce the aircraft’s weight to a safe level before initiating an emergency landing. The aircraft, a Boeing 777-36N (ER) registration B-16738, was carrying a full complement of passengers, began to circle in Thai airspace while the pilots carried out the necessary procedures to ensure the safety of all on board. After several hours of circling, the decision was made to return to Suvarnabhumi Airport. Thankfully, the flight landed safely back at the airport with no reported injuries. Emergency crews were on standby as the plane touched down, and the passengers were taken off the aircraft. A spokesperson for EVA Air later confirmed that the incident was caused by a problem with the front wheel’s tyre, which prompted the emergency landing. The airline expressed gratitude for the professionalism of its flight crew and reassured passengers that their safety remained its top priority. Following the safe landing, the airline will continue to investigate the cause of the issue with the landing gear and has promised to take appropriate steps to ensure the safety of future flights. -- 2025-04-05 3 1 1

johng Posted yesterday at 12:01 PM Posted yesterday at 12:01 PM I flew EVA back to Bangkok from London and when we landed some of the passengers gave a round of applause.. as they say any landing you can walk away from is a good landing,I hope you are correct and the passengers are compensated 👍 2

Thai airways wouldn't rebook everyone? Eva is ok but not an amazing airline by any stretch. If this was Thai no doubt you would be harping on about Thai and lack of maintenance. 1 2 1

Thai is one of the airlines that during covid times cancelled flights, left people stranded, and then refused to issue refunds for the cancelled flights. I'm sure Thai would eventually rebook people, but who knows how many days later, and probably with no compensation. 1 1 1

If Thai had an emergency landing today would they not rebook passengers just as Eva did? 1

Pilots don't tell passengers the full details to keep idiots from panicking and inflicting their stupid screamin and wails on other pax.. The pilot will say there is an issue that they are working to resolve and if they have to turn back and burn off fuel will say that and nothing else, until there is a need to prepare for a difficult landing. The flight originates in TPE, does a 5th freedom stop in BKK and then departs for LHR. The LHR bound passengers will be protected by the UK 261 regulations which mirror the EU protections. If the connections are on the same flight booking, the misconnect gets automatically rebooked. If it is a separate ticket, the pax deals with it. The airline isn't liable for nonlinked flights. The frequent flyers won't get much extra from EVA. EVA Miles isn't particularly generous to anyone. 1 2
ukrules Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago What happened to dumping the fuel in an emergency situation - don't they do that any more?

My EVA business class flight from BKK to san francisco is in a few days. It cost me just 75K miles. Thats the cheapest redemption I know of for any airline on that route. Costs me about 750 USD equivalent in miles earned from credit card points. I would call that quite generous. 1

If it had been a THAI aircraft, you would have been leading the charge with @BigBilly on high cost, poor service, rampant corruption, old airplanes and painting the tail fin black. 1 1
NanLaew Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago 1 hour ago, ukrules said: What happened to dumping the fuel in an emergency situation - don't they do that any more? Fuel dumping is done over the sea, not over land. The flight was originally headed NW, away from the sea, so having it urn and circle over the Gulf would have taken more time and probably more disruptive to other air traffic.

Wasn't too bad, but they didn't board in groups at either BKK or HKG, like most other airlines. Got wise to that at HKG and played the doddering senior and 'barged' my way in near the front. Food service at the back of the bus was a bit haphazard looking on both flights, with an attendant running back and forth, balancing extra trays as their food carts were emptied. Also, their 777 on the BKK-HKG hop was 21 years old, which makes EVA's 777 involved in the above incident a mere whippersnapper at 7 years old. 1

There are always exceptions. You are fortunate and scored a rare "deal" that really isn't a deal. to most people. It doesn't help if you want to have a Return flight because a 1 way in business is almost always more expensive than the allocated segment on a round trip, so you end up paying more. Trying to redeem a RT for LAX, YVR,, NYC, YYZ is very dificult. EVA has Miles that expire in 2 years, lack of availability and an inflation of reward redemption fares distinguish the EVA Miles program. That is the consensus on the frequent flyer website. I use it for my fare deal and mileage run guidance.

Thai also recently announced an all new business class is coming across the fleet - including lie flat in narrow bodies. Also bringing in Premium economy and new IFE. Thai, for me, is a decent regional carrier (better than most) but a terrible long haul one. Hopefully this will finally allow them to properly compete. https://www.executivetraveller.com/news/thai-airways-new-777-787-business-class It's also getting rid of first class except, for some reason, in just three B777's. I wonder why....(thinking occasional flights to and from a certain mountainous European location).
