It is 10 days the 10 to 19.

Water usually start around 13. But, could start on 10 at some spots.

This is the time of year when I escape Thailand too. Been watching too many accidents, where motorbike drivers were trying to avoid getting soaked. Traffic-wise it's just a dangerous time of year. One year my phone was drowning as well.

 

Malaysia use to get a few extra bucks from me in April. Worth discovering.

Pattaya usually starts 4-5 days before the "official" start date so you should be prepared starting now.

The "official" dates are 13-15 April.

Get your phone, wallet and money in zip lock bags just to be safe.

Plan your days. Stay away from residential areas (where there may be lots of kids) and bar areas - where there may be lots of girls looking for fun.

Shop and stock up ahead of time if you don't want to step outside between 13-15 April.

Or dress for it and go out loaded for bear with your flowery shirt, flip flops and water gun loaded with ice water.

I'm not grumpy at all. What gave you that idea? On the contrary. I'm always a happy camper. I love Malaysia as well, I recommend a visit there. Open your eyes, widen your horizon. Songkran isn't for everyone.

But It's not just water  its freezing cold water with ice chunks and perhaps not too clean (ditch water and urine) slammed into your face,eyes and ears with no regard of if you want to "play" or not ... for not just one day  but  from the 11th to the 19th    19th being the big crescendo day  total madness and gridlock of Pattaya...I'm, staying home   been there done that.

Opposite Sukhumwit Lotus some years back was a large tanker parked with a queue of pick ups waiting to have their barrels refilled.....

Under the tanker were the words...' EMTY YOU TILET'....and a phone number.
