Do you think so?  I think it makes tourists look bad, rather than any Thai people.

Of course.  It's one drunken idiot and a crowd of mostly Thais encouraging him.  Noting is done to deescalate or defuse, and he doesn't actually get violent with anyone, but eventually one security guard, who shouldn't get violent with anyone, punches him.  As soon as he is down, loads of Thais (who he has not harmed and he is no threat to) rush in to attack him while he is vulnerable.  They even attack his friend who had only been trying to calm the guy down.  If they had not been stopped, they might have killed him, and there was likely a racial element to their anger and desire to harm him.

I'm not sure how you can not think this makes Thais and Thailand look bad.

Ok then, it makes everyone involved look bad.  Soi 6 is not all of Thailand and those who work there are not most Thais.

I suspect there was more before that.  Had he been in the bar concerned and been asked to leave?  The girls that joined in once he was on the ground, looked they were gaining revenge!

Yes he had been a dick for awhile.

Anyhow, comes with the territory, the security get a salary and a bonus of an idiot falang to kick on a weekly basis!

Yes, not everyone down that Soi is kind and polite like us Jacko

I would imagine that for every one they teach some manners to there would be another ten that come very close to receiving a lesson.

Stressful dangerous job dealing with drunken idiots every day year after year. They really deserve an award for keeping the Soi so peaceful.

I don't think it does, but then Amsterdam isn't in a tropical climate where these types can roam around shirtless in flip flops all night, plus Amsterdam nightlife is nowhere near as hedonistic. For a start the brasses are all behind shop windows.

I think the difference in Amsterdam is the girls are not in bars.

someone said there used to be no security on Soi 6.

once, a tourist was roughing up a girl and a normal citizen took it upon himself to handle the tourist.

That's possible, but incidents like this, which aren't exactly uncommon, paint a certain picture about what happens in Thailand and how Thai people act.  Especially as the people who eagerly attack tourists generally see zero consequences.

Westerners aren't completely daft.  They can see when there is a pattern, and those that like to drink or party, want to be able to do so in relaxing way while on holiday without worrying about being attacked due to some sort of disagreement or perceived slight.

This does not promote a family friendly image.

Love it 👍

This is how  Thai justice works  I have seen this many times over the years especially Songcran time when the worst idiots shine. When there is a problem in a bar they don't call the police for help and wait for them to arrive with the riot squad The bouncers take care of the situation and if they need help they carry  the dickhead outside and give anyone who want's a scrap to join in and that's usually the moto bike riders who like a bit of fun and other by-standers. I witnessed  a similar thing in soi 6 where a mob of foreigners were partying outside Nana Plaza and I was in the old Golden Bar accross the road. They were stopping all the cars and climbing on top of them and also stopping motor bikes , An old Thai man came by in a pick up and they jumped on the bonnet. When he got out they attacked him. It was lke a signal was given to security and in about 20 seconds flat  about 10 of them came out of the bars and proceeded to bash the sh*t out of these yobbos and let the old man go on his way.Who needs the police ???

Yes, it looks cowardly, even if the guy is an idiot.

100%  - but you'll be accused of being a 'Farang Apologist' and a 'Thai Basher' for making such observations...

Of course, its easy to suggest the Western guy had it coming, because he did... But as you point out, 'security' should be held to a higher standard and de-escalate the situation instead of actively escalating to violence.

The idiot Westerner makes Thailand look bad, but so do the security and all the others who join in.

While watching the video, I'm surprised the Security didn't react earlier, he showed initial restraint and of course, like most people I wanted to Western idiot to receive his comeuppance, after-all, what an utter tosspot - nevertheless, the reaction from the security does nothing to service Thailands reputation as anything other than a mongers paradise full of idiots and violence - which of course is untrue for the vast majority of areas - but the normal stuff is not spread through the social media - just this craziness.

100%

While posters may commend the actions of the bouncers, the rest of the world sees news reports - Dickheads are always going to come to Thailand, does it mean Thailand has to be dragged down to this level. What’s the problem with just standing strong, asking the guy calmly to go home and calling the police. If this country wants to attract better tourists, they need to distance themselves from this behavoir.

It's no good calling the Police at the moment as they are all out at the breahyliser road blocks and patrolling the highways to keep the road toll down.

I reckon watching that video will do some good if a yobbo who's thinking of going to Thailand for a holiday sees it he will see what could happens if you  play up in a bar.

Unfortunately, nice people will see it and think they should avoid Thailand, while yobs will think it's the place to be!

You don't attract "good" tourists by battering the "bad" ones.

Nice story, but it isn't the same as in the OP.  He wasn't attacking anyone or breaking anything.  It's important to make the distinction.

I think it is important to not piss off more than 1 person at a time. It is not like they are going to wait in line so that they can punch you one at a time.

A drunken incident by a foreign tourist ended in swift retribution after he assaulted a female bar worker and mocked Muay Thai, only to be knocked down by a bouncer and then roughed up by a furious crowd.

Another thing I like about this kingdom.

Often swift instant justice on the spot,  to the senseless aggressor.

We don't know what trouble he caused in the bar before the cameras started rolling. It's fair to say that if he had only upset 1 girl the mamasam would have just moved him out and he would of gone on his way. Also note the old fella with the shoulder bag who diffused the situation  before the idiot got hurt too bad as it would be bad for business if he was carted off to Hospital unconcious. He made sure he got just enough medicine  to teach him a lesson.

how embarrassing for this loser.

It's more embarrassing for Thailand:

"The drunk holidaymaker had allegedly been causing trouble on the notorious strip of sex bars in Pattaya, Thailand, during Thai New Year's celebrations.

Authorities will be keen to avoid any more unwanted attention for the coastal town, which is struggling to shake off its lawless reputation."

Yup, especially when the Dailymail headline is "Instant karma! Swaggering tourist gets humiliating lesson after gathering a crowd and challenging bouncer to a fight outside Thai bar". It makes for a nice warning to the Brits.

Shame to see a fellow countryman behaving this way.

But also shame to see  Thai security guards beating people up.

The bars pay money to the cops, so just call the cops when things go down.

The bouncer should be in jail. just a Thai thug, like most of them.

removing your uniform does not excuse you from your job.

Grow up all you merchant bankers.

there were no good people fighting in this clip. :coffee1:
