Eat whole foods not processed foods. Wash fruits and vegetables with food grade soap  and/or soak them in baking soda solution for 15 minutes and rinse with drinking water. Avoid farmed fish, eat only wild caught fish or sea food. Never buy or use oils stored in plastic containers. Lots of good advice on Youtube and on the internet - checkout Dr. Ekberg and Dr. Berg recommendations on youtube.

I have reduced use of EVOO, just use a little on salads. I mostly use virgin coconut oil and butter now for frying.

Sadly that knowledge has systematically been erased by the food industry who, in practice, are as bad if not worse than "big pharma"

 

I remember the 1970's when there was an enormous campaign to promote margarine over butter. Butter was bad bad bad. Buy the cheaper margarine. Same with eggs.

The big mics you see are condensor mics. Expensive. They are used for most high-end professional recordings because of their quality and frequency response. Dynamic mics are 7x cheaper, mostly used for live events. As a musician, I can disagree and say those clip-ons are horrible. I have produced many videos. It takes me so much time in post production to get them to sound good without the speaker souding like an amateur.

Not only expensive but fragle compared to the Dynamic mics.  I think some of those Shure mics could be run over by a truck and used to bludgeon an unruly audience member and still work fine.  🤣

I have a 40 year old SM58, solid aluminium, original cartridge, been round the world with it. Still sounds better than the newer ones.

Having been a professional musician/recording engineer for many years, I do know the difference.

But just for pod casts, which are usually listened to or watched on a TV or a PC or a phone, the difference is probably un-noticeable.

They use those small head mics in West End/Broadway shows,

And if Lavaliers are good enough for Helena Humphrey and Sam Naz, why not Joe Rogan.  555

 

But now, back to the oil business. Butter, rice bran and coconut are my go-tos, and I am still alive and sometimes kicking. Cheers.

Cue the ‘my ole mum reckon a bunch of lard is great!‘ etc

Made a quip about cooking at home with bad fats, clearly joking, and yet get the ‘sad’ ‘confused’ emojis. Some must sit there all day waiting to pounce. So sad, with all this beautiful county around us. 
 

Fats are great, esp the ribeye extra cooked after etc. And yes, gee and lard are possibly not as bad to cook with (AT THE RIGHT TEMP) than veg fats. But it is not necessarily good for you. Nothing is when it’s heated to the nth degree. Pretty sure we didn’t evolve with a wok full of heavy hot oils and fats though. Possibly big reason why cancer is so prevalent. Whatever. Folk should do what they want. The boomers will put us right of course.

Eggs can be cooked on low heat.

You can mostly avoid stir fry high heat style cooking.

There is no need to cook with any oils or fats.  Just for convenience, transfer of heat evenly, and less stacking, and of course, added flavor.  Your body does need cholesterol & fats though, and easy enough to get, if not a vegan.  I'm a big fan of eggs, 2 or 3 everyday.

 

I've also cut back on Olive, peanut and coconut oil, as high in saturated fat.  Started using Canola mostly for cooking.  Peanut for deep frying, since we have, though haven't decided what to use after we run out. 

 

Cut back on my coconut use, mostly makin chocolate.   Easy just to buy the brand I like and not any healthier, just easier.  Bestmate chocolate (70% cacoa), 29% sugar.   Cacao part is powder, mass (?), and butter.  More sugar than my homemade.

cacao contains cacao butter, ie a fat. as far as i know, it's a healthy fat.

i have been eating coconut yogurt, which is high in fat. again as far as i know, it's a healthy fat.

there are so many different types of fats out there though that it is confusing.

No argument here.  Fat & cholesterol don't scare me all.  Less saturated is better, or should be, but my diet is about 50% fat, 30% protein, and 20% carbs.  So a bit Keto ish, though hard core Keto wants 80% fat, 15% protein, and 5% carbs.

 

I prefer the extra protein to slow the muscle atrophy that comes with age, and a bit less activity.

 

But I'm definitely not following the 'health experts' with their silly, upside down food pyramid.  And never felt healthier, with blood work #s to agree with how I feel.

Yeah, I don't track my macros enough ... but I'm not even sure what they should be as there is so much conflcting info. But thanks for sharing. I'll give it more thought. 

 

PS: One nutritionist pointed out that zero fat in the diet will lead to a low libido. So some fats do appear to be necssary for multiple reasons.

Fat is necessary for fat soluble vitamins & minerals.  

 

I used this site, and put in some foods, for the day.  And add things when curious.  Did enough times so I have a ball park idea of my fat, protein, carb ratios.  I don't put in everything I eat, every day, just some of my usual foods, and just get a ball park idea.

 

One surprise from the info, was the high amount of saturated fats I was taking in, hence the cutting back of high saturated fat oils.  Get enough of that with chocolate, dairy/cheeses & nuts.

 

Would like less carbs, but apparently that's not going to happen, and keep my smile factor.

So this chart is saying that coconut oil is the worst for Saturated Fat.  But Rice Bran Oil is about halfway to being good/bad.

It is what it is.   Just depends if you want to cut your saturated fat intake.  I get plenty elsewhere in my diet, as already noted, so don't need it in my oils.

I can only present the info, can't make you watch and or understand it.  Thought the vid was self explanatory, but from the replies since posting, obviously nobody watched, and common place on AN.

 

Plenty of now current info & studies out there for people, if interested in eating and having a better dining lifestyle.  No need to follow the lies you've been told in the past.  Defuncts all the BS, such as the OP.

Thanks, read it and shall change back to Canola = Rape Seed oil when coconut is finished.
