Bangkok to Require Pet Registration and Microchipping by 2026

Bangkok residents will be required to register and microchip their pets starting 10 January 2026. Under a new regulation by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, pet owners must microchip their dogs and cats within 120 days of birth or 30 days of ownership. The law also introduces restrictions on pet numbers based on residence size—only one pet allowed in small flats, for example. Dangerous breeds such as pit bulls and Rottweilers must be reported to district authorities. The law aims to curb stray populations and enhance public safety, though specific penalties have yet to be detailed. Owners of livestock like cows and chickens must also keep them in approved areas.
