During the pandemic, there was no more enthusiastic and loyal covid policy cheerleader than The Atlantic.

Something must have changed, as they recently published an article on the Masked Mental-Illness Mob.

The article reported that according to a recent PEW poll, around four percent (4%) of Americans still regularly mask up

That's 14 million people.

You can read the article here: https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2025/04/covid-conscious/682252/

And it features a couple of testimonies from that still-masking bunch, who are stuck in a perpetual state of fear, anxiety, and obsessive compulsion.

It’s ruining their lives, their relationships, and what remains of their mental health.

I've had two jobs in my life when wearing a mask was essential. One in Wales, where the company made plaster boards. That was way back when i was first married. The other time was in a wood yard in North-London about 30 years ago. Had to change the mask every hour too. That's about it.

Those particles could be seen in the air. I'll not be wearing a mask for a mystery inert entity that cannot cause harm.

But how many of those Americans were wearing a mask cause their teeth are bad?

Do you have any friends/relatives that qualify as EverMaskers?

I surely don't.  You sometimes see them in Airports, keeping 'safe distance' from all the sane 'disease shedding' people around them, which is just fine for me as I as I have no interest whatsoever making contact with these masking fruitcakes.

Note that the hardline maskers even have a mask on their Profile picture.

Aren't you the one that made some posts about vaccines , I could be wrong.

But then you should know that "shedding" is real.

Last year I was the 1% still wearing a mask in the airport , on the bus and plane.

I got sick anyway.

Still I will be one of those fruitcakes again.

And here up north from january to even now on bad PM2.5 days , I wear one outside.

Yes, shedding is real - I posted several threads on that issue.

But don't make yourself any illusions > masking will not protect from you catching Covid-19.

Even Fauci - dr Evil himself - was against masking.  Obviously that was before his spectacular 180-degree turnaround to stoke up the fear for Covid and prepare people for the Magical Jabs that would 'flatten the curve in 2 weeks'.

I have no opinion on wearing a cloth-mask on bad PM2.5 days, but I am pretty sure that the 'benefits' of doing so are highly exaggerated, while of course the downsides are never addressed.

E.g. masks reduce the oxygen intake, are a breeding ground for bacteria and contain toxic micro-fibres.

You don't wear a mask all the time .

If masks don't work , why to surgeons wear them while operating ?

I wear better masks than them.

5 years futher , and I haven't had covid .

Or maybe that 1 week I had the flu.

No covids shots either.

No sticks up my nose or pcr tests , but they don't prove anything.

Of course Fauci was against masking , covid had to spread,

so that he could roll out the shots.

Well, you continue to be stuck in a perpetual state of fear, anxiety, obsessive compulsion, and rage regarding the vaccines, so I'm not sure you're one to criticize.

these masking fruitcakes

Sadly, some people have poor genes because they chose the wrong parents, they have received inferior DNA.

Good on these unfortunate people for protecting themselves by wearing masks, I wish them well.

I reckon it's you who is the fruitcake at times, there's no need to be nasty, these people only want to take care of themselves, survive.

If on Thai roads quite a bit, and smog season, then I can understand it.  As getting stuck behind vehicles, especially diesels is no joy.

Thankfully traffic not bad in our semi rural area & small town.   But when stuck at a traffic light, it really sucks when on the scooter.

But for protection from bacteria or viruses ... :cheesy:

It looks like we are on the same page re Covid.

But I didn't wear a mask except for the 5-minute occasions in places where they were mandatory (Imm Office, Bank).  I also didn't practice asocial distancing, and never took a PCR or other so-called Covid-detection device,

Obviously I didn't take the Covid shots (nor the flu or any other vaccine shots for as long as I can remember).

Haven't been sick or bed-ridden for +5 years, except for a rare 1-2 day common cold.

No fear or anxiety from my part.

Re obsessive compulsion > yes, continually providing AN-members with information that is not available on the MSM about risks and harms of the jabs, so that they can make up their mind.

Re rage > yes, will never forgive the vax-pushers and they need to face the consequences of their deeds.

I think most people know about the risks and harms of the shots by now.

On the other hand , not enough people have died from it , so I understand

why they keep denying the danger , and only want to hear that taking the

shot was justified.

They believe that wearing a cloth-mask, social distancing and being Jabbed to their eyeballs with Covid- and flu-jabs, will protect their health and prevent them from catching Covid.

The effect of these measures is of course the exact opposite.

If it's considered 'nasty' to confront them with the blunt truth, so be it...

Some people are not as healthy as you.

Why confront them, leave them in peace.

Why would anyone become hostile to someone with a disability. You want to bully people.

Are you a good human, look at yourself.

I think pretty Thai girls continue to wear a mask as it helps them deal with old farangs (like me) staring at them even though, when you can't see their faces, I tend to check out their t*ts

I thought the US was supposedly the Land of the Free, if 4% of Americans wish to still wear a mask then that's their choice and none of your business. Given the cost of medical care in the US if your health is at all fragile a simple mask is probably a good investment.

Yes, it's their choice to still wear a mask, practice asocial distance and continue with their covid-jabs and boosters.

And I am not forbidding them to keep doing so.  Their body, their choice.

The point is that they believe - and you seem to believe that too with your masking as a good investment argument - that those practices will prevent them from getting sick.  Because that's what they hear and read 24/7 on the mainstream media.

Providing them with information about the harms and downsides of doing so - which they will not hear about when only consuming 'accepted narrative' drivel from the MSM - will at least give them the option to make up their mind about the issue.  If they do not want to even consider it, that's their choice.  And indeed the choice that they make is 'none of my business'.

That's really one of the most annoying things, pretty girls wearing masks. It's unnatural and a sin against the Universe.

Quote

The coronavirus never stopped its killing rampage: Hundreds of Americans die from it every week, even now in March of 2025, when the pandemic emergency is over

This snippet from the article would indicate that the lockdowns were completely pointless in that case.

It's a bit like lingerie. Sometimes it's better better NOT to see what's underneath.

Just like "freedom of speech" in some countries "masking is a personal choice unless I have to pay $ for your illness out of my pocket (only my kids).
