Government will verify cell# to mobile banking names

Featured Replies

Luckily read about this in Bangkok Post yesterday the government, in attempt to deal with “fraudulent” mobile banking scams, they are requiring banks to verify the bank account holders name agrees with the mobile carrier name for that phone#.

I wasn’t sure so went to AIS (if you have Thai ID can check with a phone call).  Sure enough, 2 years ago when I first registered my SIM, it was my gf who registered it.  Not too involved to get it changed to my name.  Be sure and bring passport.

So if you are not 100% certain your phone # is registered in YOUR name, better get it checked at your cell service provider.

The news story said they will begin checking April 30 and will CANCEL ONLINE BANKING if names don’t agree.

This is not something you can check at your bank; need to verify at cell service provider.

Good luck!

Old news, they've been doing this for over a year.

I had to move my daughters off my mobile account to their own accounts for their mobile banking to work.
