Is that you Cheesey?

Don't act stupid. I don't hid behind any avatar or play games like you. Don't like what I post then move yourself along. This forum has gone down hill at the expense of the subscribers to the forum

I didn't see anything stupid in the comment, I thought it was a fair question.

That is a very broad statement.

In what ways, in your opinion, has it gone downhill?

Yes, fair point.

i think we could do without all that.

In my opinion it is a bit childish all that stuff.

I wouldn’t say it has gone downhill, or even uphill for that matter, but it has changed direction.

AI and fake news being two of the worst offenders in bringing the level of intelligent posting down.

Are there too many posts about Trump ??, probably, but it is the main current affairs topic at the moment, Russia/Ukraine and Israel/Gaza rounding off the top 3.

If you don’t have any interest in these topics then maybe move on to something more to your liking ?

Still plenty of helpful threads around to attract interest but not much Thailand related stuff these days .

If you don’t like those in it for clicks ( Bob and his many spin offs, Malc or the fan of Harris ! ) then seek other topics, i personally will avoid most of the dross posted by the above but occasionally get dragged in by curiosity, as this post is an example.

What is more frequent and more annoying is the insertion of one’s political agenda in to any topic, it is always the same posters and the same key words involved ( cue you know who to give me a leftist reply to this post ).

All in all the forum still allows us to ask for help, air our views, slander those old enemies or even give useful positive advice to others, the choice is yours.

Wise words from the highly respected elder statesmen of the forum.

Apart from slotting me in the same category as Bob and Harris.

Sorry Malc, I should have added that you have mellowed recently and the number of your inane posts have diminished to an almost acceptable level …….. almost 😀

I totally agree and in an ideal world I would REMOVE them completely, but it was put to a vote more than once, and the membership overwhelmingly wanted their stickers to remain.

Have you only been around since 2022? I was on here for 16 years before that. When they introduced reputation, maybe around 2010 - 2012, this place deteriorated as many members are obsessed with it and post for responses and likes.

have only been here a couple of years.

Not since they took away the "sad" and the "confused" reactions icons!

That was the nail in the coffin.

Thumbs down is just not sufficient to react to the wild, weird, crazy, nutty and downright terrible posts you get here sometimes!

Boycott ASEANNOW Until the return of the confused and sad reactions!!

We need 2 laughing emojis.

Because you could be laughing "with" someone (ie that was funny) or laughing "at" someone (ie you don't know what you're talking about).

As the saying goes, "I'm just here for the comments" lol....

IMO the only thing that has improved is the trolling, which is great because it's highly entertaining to see the snowflakes lose their sht. Otherwise it's about useful as teats on a bull. FB subject specific groups yield much more useable info.

I must be one of the longest members on this forum (member #174).  I remember 22 years ago when the forum was a hive of useful and interesting posts.  Today, it is mostly a cesspit of trolls and AI posts, with the occasional useful/interesting post.

But TBH, that's simply a reflection of 'progress' (or lack of it).  I think many other forums also suffer from these problems.  IMHO, social media has done a lot of damage to society, (and I speak as someone who was a pioneer in developing SMS social media channels and AI chat).

Not forgetting that I am now 22 years older and certainly my own views have changed over the years (old man shouting at clouds etc!).

You're absolutely right. IMO we hit the sweet spot sometime in the 90's wrt comms technology, where we could call and send SMS. The introduction of social media allowed for the hate and craziness to be spread by people who suddenly had a large audience, people you never heard from before because they were mostly weirdos just muttering to themselves.

Personally, I have a FB account just because I use Messenger to keep in touch with family and friends. I don't have Tik-Tok, Instagram or any of the other major platforms except for Twitter, and that account was opened to follow one particular topic only. And if you think this forum is full of c**p then I advise you to stay well clear of Twitter - it's a sewer.

So yes, social media has done/does a lot of damage to society, and it will only get worse.

Almost as terrifying as when people announce they are putting someone on their ignore list.

Yes, it is like throwing stones at someone's front door and running off!

But, of course there are exceptions. Because without social media the world would never have benefited from such astonishing pearls of wisdom as the one posted above.

Thank you!🥲

Any chance we would be able to see which poster posts each emoji? IMHO that extra level of anonymization is unnecessary and posters should be required to stand up for how and what they reacted to. Not a big deal but the level of emoji trolling is quite astounding.

I know I can contact support about the trolling but can't be bothered. It's just that I don't see the point of the anonymization of emojis.

How can you prove that an emoji is "trolling"?

If someone gives you a thumbs down, it means they disagree with you. And what? It should not be allowed? You expect the mods to police every thumbs down?

One solution, is to  have only positive emotions, and if someone needs to express negativity against the posters, they actually have to write one with words, and express why.
