Great guy, I recently bought two made in Japan safety razors from him.

They've also a website, just tap Siam Wet Shave on search bar.

My thoughts too. He's a good guy, but it made sense for me to buy from home due to the price differences. When he gets some more Taylor of Bond Street shaving cream in, I'll buy from him. I've tried whitebeards shaving cream, but I wasn't impressed, same with their pre shave oil. What do you use?

I've tried Mr. DIY's blades myself and found that they pull the hair. I believe those blades are not of good quality, not sharp enough.

like I said you have to find the best ones, I agree with you on the cheapest ones

From what I understand, Mr.DIY is a superstore of cheap Chinese products that they can't even manage to sell in China. They just repack in an acceptable way and push these products all over the world to rake in money from people who think they're buying useful, affordable items.

I doubt that's entirely accurate. That's quite a gamble on business model of defective products. Also appears to be owned by Muslims as they are largely who I see working in the stores.

Nevertheless, it would seem so.

Products sold within China have very low quality standards. I'm not surprised much of diy might be these products. I think they're just excess from Chinese market.

China overproduces nearly 15%. It must find markets abroad for the stuff

Products sold in b25 stores here also Chinese, but functional (not the same products).

Where do you guys buy your wet shaving products?

Why wet shave, try these.

In Thailand, no need for a close shave.

I bought a few of these on Lazada.

A must-have for handsome men. 😎

Temu and Shopee sell these as low as 18 Baht now. I bought mine for 42 Baht two years ago.  But I only use it to shave my head.

For my face, nothing beats Harry's blades, especially if you strop them before each use. I can get 30-40 'comfortable'  shaves from one (I shave my neck every other day) combined with a very light touch of Gatsby's Shaving gel.

Stropping is the real secret to getting a close, comfortable shave, and increasing the life of the blade. There's a valid reason barbers strop their razors.  I made my strop from a piece of 'Horween's' shell Cordovan horsehide, giving my blades 30-40 strokes before shaving to remove any oxidation that formed overnight. You can use any firm surface to strop; an old leather belt, the palm of your hand (yes, human skin does contain natural silicates, just not as much as cows, horses, or kangaroos,) or even your jeans! If you strop before every shave, and shake your razor dry afterward, you can almost double the number of 'comfortable' shaves.

I'm too delicate to put up with shaving drag.

Gillette Mach 3 blades for me.

I used to use Nivea or Barbasol shaving cream, but then decided to just give imperial leather soap a try. I thought I was being stingy, but seems like many others on here do the same. It does the job. I shave 4 times a week.

1973 Gillette Black Beauty, Feather DEs, any British or Italian soap, you can buy in the malls in BKK

Merkur futur 700 knock off from China, cost about 60bht, works perfectly but Lazada price now 160bht.

Harry's razors have a nice heft to them, but blades have to be imported, so the Gillette Mach 3 is a decent substitute,

I see an advert on UK TV for Harry's, which says get the eighth shave as close as the first. WHAT? Only 8 shaves from one blade. I use the best a man can get (alledgedly) Fusion, every two days, keep it in a small cup of vege oil after shaking it dry. I am on at least the thirtieth good shave off the current one. It is oxidisation of the blade which causes bluntness, not your whiskers.

Barbasol from Lotus is fine.

I take it you strop the opposite way to when shaving your mush.

I think you’ll find blades in both tops and BigC that fit Harry’s.

Which ones, or do you expect him to buy a pack of every available brand and variation on the off chance that your "thinking" is correct and that one blade fits?

Take a photo with you if your memory is not that good.  It’s pretty obvious the ones that will fit.

Though I still wet shave, I'm no longer in the hobby. Right before covid, I got into it and bought many artisan brushes, soaps, after shaves, and razors ordered from abroad. Most stuff got through without being taxed.

Most places I ordered from listed a low amount on the customs form. If you're really into shaving as a hobby, you'll need to order from the USA. That's where the wet shaving action is from soaps, splashes, brushes, razors, etc.

I would bet my bottom dollar they make blades that will deteriorate within a specific time. If they made a blade that only needed replacing every 6 months, they'd go out of business.

3 blade razors Mr DIY, 25Bhat for 5 pack.

shave brush Lazada about 100 baht.

shave soap Lazada about 110 baht.

Save everyday, save head every other day.

Down stairs every month.

Almost any soap, (Imperial Leather is my usual brand) and a 7/11 two or three blade disposable razor. Once the soap is worn down to about half size, into the mug. Key is a shaving brush to produce and apply a lather. They are readily available on Lazada. Oh yes, and warm water.

I wouldn't say it was a hobby (!) but I shave most days. Razor lasts a week.

Just wondering, why soap as opposed to shaving foam in a can?

I just use local produced Whitebeard's soaps, but of course cannot be compared to the shaving soaps produced in the West.

Unfortunately I don't have opportunities to go back home so many times.

Here in Thailand, there doesn’t seem to be a wide variety available locally, and imported products tend to be crazy expensive due to absurd import taxes.

How do you approach this hobby while living in Thailand?

BigC, Lotus, Tops, Lazada and others

Shaving foam is almost devoid of water. For a comfortable shave, it's always better to hydrate the skin, so lathered soap with the right amount of water is ideal.

Not a hobby. I simply apply British colonial troop doctrine. Sunday and Wednesday whether I need it or not.

Bic 3 blade plastic razor from 7-Eleven and a bar of White round soap also from  7-Eleven. Bic is the best disposable I have found and the white soap lathers up very well especially with a shaving brush.

where did you get the brush?

A quality shaving soap will have oils and other natural ingredients that provide more lubrication than the foam that comes from a can.

I can certainly tell the difference between the foam that comes out of a can and a good lather built from a quality shaving soap.

If it's the same dimensions as the real Merkur, You're in the advanced shaving club

Wash my face first, minimum shaving foam but adequate, wet the razor regularly does the job for me.

Sadly too long ago to recall exactly. A shop when I was visiting Vancouver. I seem to remember also buying a high end foil electric shaver.

I'm sure brushes are available are on-line.

Same reason for not using cheese in a can?

If worked into a good lather, in a mug, using a shaving brush, it does the same job at a fraction of the cost.

I occasionally add a couple of drops of coconut oil (I use it for cooking).
