For my fellow North American, expat, breakfast-eaters, maple syrup can be an essential food element.

So, I want to clear up any confusion about that.

Waitrose brand name maple syrup is sold at TOPS "Food Hall" supermarkets in Thailand.

But no guarantee that it will be in stock at all times.

And smaller TOPS, such as "Daily" are not likely to carry expensive farang food like Canadian maple syrup  ... only the much cheaper "Imperial" brand chemical sludge.

maplesyrup.thumb.jpg.789b4e289e6d6c04e3f72461639e5498.jpg

For a very tasty beverage, I put 2 Tablespoons of maple syrup in a glass with very cold, plain soda water.

Gives a delicious "cream soda" with none of the artificial chemicals in "Hales" syrup.

For an even more delicious "ice cream soda" substitute, put on top of that about 1/2 cup of heavy cream.

Returning to breakfast topic:

For North American expats here who remember church pancake suppers, the pancakes at Bucoliq restaurant out in San Sai are very close to that taste and texture.

Not 100%, but very close.

Soon to be American Maple Syrup.

USA does produce Maple Syrup, and shy of 6M gallons a year, though far behind Canada

Actually a huge 1st meal for me.  My usual eggs w/crispy onion chili oil.   Hoping the steak, eggs (fat & protein), eaten first, then the whole wheat croissant's protein & fat, along with the cream cheese, will negate most of the carbs & sugar, eaten last.  So digested slower, and no sugar / insulin spike.

Add in the walk at the park, which is next ... so still eating Keto-ish, and much healthier than years past.  This after that 15 hr overnight fast :coffee1:

Steak & eggs look good - I could eat that now. Not really a croissant person though

Sorry, but eating a croissant is not ok just because you eat it after steak and eggs because it lowers the sugar spike.

A croissant is a croissant. It's refined carbs.

I hope you're not eating croissants every morning. That will set your health goals back.

I agree, and no, don't eat croissants very often, just for that reason.  But, when I do, I try to limit the sugar / insulin spikes, as much as possible.  Loading up with fat & protein before, with a stroll afterward helps that.

(You don't have to include your naked lover.)

What did he do with the skins after he peeled them off for you or would you rather not say?

Did you forget to remove the plastic wrap on the cheese?

No. But looking at the picture it almost looks like that.

In hindsight I should have left it in the oven for a minute or two longer. Next time.

This is how it looked like half through my preparation - no wrap anymore. 😉

it's because it's not real cheese, but highly processed cheese.

and some of the ingredients might eerily resemble plastic.

Ok, please experts, what is a good cheese for this kind of sandwich?

I thought that square cheddar cheese is the right kind of cheese where the cheese should melt.

If not, why not? And which cheese (available in Bangkok) would you suggest?

In general, I like Edam Cheese (the real one, not in little plastic bags).

I used something like this, I don't remember the brand.

In the oven or on the grill?

I did this the first time.

I put it in the oven 180 degree with heat from up and down for about 10min.

And when I saw it was not really brown on top I changed the oven to grill for another 2 minutes.

When I do it again, I plan to keep it a minute or two longer in the oven.

I was inspired by this:

I know, but it does taste good on burgers. I prefer real cheese also, like Emmenthaler or Vermont Cheddar on burgers, but if it's not available......

I thought it looked too good to be baked.

I usually fry the ham in butter, flip it, add the cheese, when the cheese melts put it on the bread and then grill the sandwich in the same pan.

For a grilled cheese, I just butter the bread and grill it covered

Plus, it's easy and lasts a lot longer individually wrapped.

Got up early and had a run, so nice and cool. Was famished so cooked up a quick breakfast. Left over baked potato changed into home fries with some onion. Found a small pork chop in the freezer and bingo 40 minutes later eating.
